Well, I hate how everybody here in Brazil compares Ronaldinho Gaucho to Maradona and Pelé.

I mean, Ronaldinho is a great player, but let's face the facts, there are at least 10 others better than him.

He is 25 years old and has only a bit more of 100 goals and the only Championship he won was the Spanish League. I know, in 2002 he won the World Cup, but his performance wasn't remarkable

So, what do you think, he is as good as Pelé and Maradona?

(sorry about my bad english, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say :( )

I use to be minority in Spanish forums, but I think that comparing him to Maradona is too much. Maradona was the greatest. I think he is a great player, but I wouldn't pick in my team for instance. This player is very media friendly. The most of the things he does are the things that are seen when the TV camera is on him. Off the ball he's not that good for instance. I think he's a top class player with some details that make him popular, uneffective bicycles, smiling while playing, and things like that.

I'd preffer Gerrard 3 times rather than him. He's not that showy, so spectacular, Gerrard is not the face of the latest FIFA games, but in terms of a team, he's more useful. But there are things that are not seen in TV.

I have a graphical proof of my point. Ronaldinho against my team, 3 years ago.

Showy, nice to see, my defence sick ---------> no goal. Goal Kick.

One of our mates has a Gerraaaaaard goal. That's the diferrence, necessary conduction, excellent body position, shoot, goal, 3 points.

In my team I preffer the second.

I'd prefer Romario, Lampard or Gerrard in my team than Ronaldinho.

(Do you prefer Maradona over Pelé?)

Off the top of my head i can think of more than twenty players in history who were better than Ronaldinho. He`s brilliant but not in the same class as Maradona,Dalglish,Puskas,Best,Neeskens,Rivera,Pele,Matthews,Cruyff,Di Stefano,Socrates,Eusebio,Zidane,Gullit,Van Basten,Alberto,Platini,Beckenbauer,....etc.....In saying that,he`s still the best player in the world at this moment.

He only makes theese skill moves against weak teams like Osasuna, Vila Real, Zaragoza. I guess that if he played on a stronger League like Italian or English, he wouldn't be in so outstanding.

When I watch South-American matches (Brazil x Argentina, for example), his performance is poor.

The 3 teams you've mentioned wouldn't have much trouble in avoiding relegation in England and Italy. Villarreal might even get into the champions aswell. Osasuna is a hell of a team defending, they can make the time pass and nothing happens. Plus, Ronaldinho has been brilliant in Europe and against Madrid too. It's just that I think football is more than skill. Skill helps a lot, but it's not everything.

What about his match winning performance against Real Madrid?
He absolutely destroyed them that night and young MESSI was the only player that could come close to him.

Lampard?

You have to be joking?

He's the most overated player ever.

He's a good player, theres about 10 centre mids in the country better than him though. Unbelievable the reputation he's built up. Absoloutely unbelievable.

whilst lampard is a good player i agree stu that he is one of the most overrated midfielders around. he reminds me a lot of david platt in that he scores goals for fun from midfield but doesn't particularly offer much else.

tell me one occasion when fat frank has ever run a game against decent opposition? ???

Its staggering to see Fat Frank rated second best player in the world.I wouldnt put our own Xabi Alonso in the top ten yet but he`s still twice the player Frank Lampard is.

Lampard, make no mistake is a very good player.

However...

Barton, Parker and even Danny Murphy are probably around the same sort or level.

The likes of Essien, Alonso, Gerrard, Makelele, Scholes, Gilberto Silva etc are all better players.
