Bayern Munich will start negotiations with star midfielder Michael Ballack over a new contract over the next two weeks, but won't offer the Germany captain a huge pay rise.
Ballack's contract expires at the end of next season. Bayern travels to Tokyo next week for a four-day tour and invited along Ballack's agent, Michael Becker.
However, Hoeness dismissed speculation that Bayern would offer Ballack a new deal worth 10 million euro ($A16.05 million) a year.
"It's important that success on the field is coupled with economic reason," Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness told Bavarian Television. "There might come a point when we have to say no."
Ballack comes back from vacation this week and will join Bayern's training camp on Wednesday.
"We are not under time pressure," Hoeness said.
British newspapers have reported that Manchester United officials would meet with their Bayern counterparts to discuss Ballack's transfer.
