Liverpool midfielder Alonso closing in on Barcelona move

Alonso could be heading to Barcelona as part of a £30million deal with Samuel Eto'o going to Anfield, says the Daily Mirror.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants to bring Eto'o to Anfield and is prepared to offer around £30million with Spanish international Xabi Alonso to join the Spanish giants in part exchange.

Alonso has been stalling over a new contract at Liverpool and Barca boss Frank Rijkaard is an admirer of the Spaniard.

Pure speculation im sure, but is this something you would like to see? i for one want to see eto'o play for us but im unhappy with the thought of having to see Alonso go.....he's been brilliant since he came and no matter how good mascherano has been for us since January i dont care because he cant do what Alonso can when firing at full form.

I think its paying £30million or Alonso+ money, Metalhead. Not £30MILLION + Alonso.

Agreed.

Could not find anything about this in the Barcelona football tabloids, and the Barcelona fans I know haven't heard about such a movement.

The Daily mirror doesn't seem to be a very reliable source neither.

If we want a competitive squad and deep at the same time, we need to add quality players like Mascherano to it, not adding one, and removing another one.

I didn't really see it happening before but it wouldn't surprise me now. Must admit i can't see Alonso/Gerrard ever being Rafa's preferred central-mid partnership so you have to wonder. I'd be gutted because Xabi is a fine player but it wouldn't be the end of the world would it? Let's be honest we have got an embarrassment of riches at the centre-mid (plus Leiva coming in) and we're pretty much shi.t.e up front.

I'd bet Ace and Peewee a tenner each that Alonso will be here next season.

Deal or No deal? :D
