Good to be back where we belong, first time in five years I gather. The timing of the internationals couldn't be worst though, just as we're hitting form and confidence, although it does give Gerrard and Carra more time to recover before the next run of games. It's a packjammed September full of (away) games :-

15/09 Portsmouth (a) PREM
18/09 Porto (a) CL
22/09 Birmingham (h) PREM
25/09 Reading (a) CC
29/09 Wigan (a) PREM

Fixtures doing their best to make our task difficult as usual. Chelsea have three at home, Hull away and Man Utd away while the mancs have trips to everton, Sporting Lisbon, and Birmingham with home games against Chelsea and Coventry.

Anyway it's comfortably our best start under Rafa :

2007/8 P4 Pts 10 (WDWW)
2006/7 P4 Pts 4 (DWLL)
2005/6 P4 Pts 6 (DWDD)
2004/5 P7 Pts 7 (DWLW)

Actually the past three seasons have all seen us pick up 10 points out of a possible 21

2006/7 P7 Pts 10 (DWLLWWL)
2005/6 P7 Pts 10 (DWDDDLW)
2004/5 P7 Pts 10 (DWLWLWL)

The best news is the number of goals we're scoring, although Derby were rather cannon fodder. But if you want to make direct comparisons we won 2-0 away at Sunderland while Man Utd could only scrape a 1-0 win at home. We'll see later today how Chelsea fare at villa

To be honest apart from the Pompy game i think this is a good run yes it is away but surely there is 10pts there

Pompy win or draw 1pt
Birmingham 3pts
Reading 3pts
Wigan 3pts

I would be over the moon if we pick up that lot

Only arsed about the highlighted games. Premiership is the priority this year, no excuses.

I'd happily lose every Champions League game from now to December (end of group stage) as long as we won every game in the league.

Pompey away is the only real challenge. Wigan (a) and Birmingham should be bankers.

There's nothing wrong with all this shouting about being top of the league. Yes its only 4 games in, yes Derby and Sunderland arent the best of sides and will lose to all of our rivals but the major thing i have noticed is our manager.
Rafa has changed the way he approaches games and we now seem to be far more offensive minded and even substitutions he is making are attack minded.
Bringing of Babel for Voronin leaving  strikers on was one that pleased me, in the past it would of been Riise and we would of happily played out the time cruising at 3 or 4 nil. Not now though Voronin and Benayoun come on we score another couple of goals and after four games we are now plus 9 goal difference while the mancs are only plus two having played a game more.
Obviously far tougher tests lie ahead, starting with pompey away which is very difficult and a place were we notoriousy struggle, if we can score early there though i fancy us getting the 3 points. With Torres we are always a danger on the counter attack. And the defence get that much potection from Mascherano that we are hardly ever under concerted pressure.
I was saying to me mate last night...when was the last game we havent totally dominated ? When we havent got the ball we press press and press some more that the opposition struggle to string more than 3 passes together. I would hate to play against us. We simply stop the other team from playing and then break quickly.
Even the defeats to Milan in the final and united at anfield we were by far the better team and dominated both games.
Infact the only time i can remember us being outplayed was Chelsea at the bridge in the champions league semi final.
Rafa has built a fine squad and i can only see the players getting better as a team with more games.
After Portsmouth away we have Birmingham at home and Wigan away...based on what we have seen so far they are bankers (and thats not being cocky smug or arrogant) we look like we mean business, we look like we have a manager brimming with intent and one with a major desire to bring us the title, thats something that we have been missing.
The only downside for me is this frickin international break, i hate it when internationals interrupt our football.
Will be counting the days until Portsmouth now because that game will show how far we have come.

Whether you care about the other competitions or not, we still have to put out XI players and subs in those games. Newcastle had a hard time against Wigan at home, we may have stuffed them last season at the JJB, but that doesn't mean we will this.

And the mancs lost at Pompey last season, drew there this while we also lost there last season - albeit near the end of the season when we had different priorities ie Champions League Final

I'm not suggesting that Wigan couldn't put up a fight, but with the players we have, and the players they have, anything less than 3 points would leave a sour taste.

And Pompey will be a real challenge, notoriously difficult there anyways and with the signings they made this summer (Utaka, Muntari) I expect a very difficult game.

Ace - cracking post mate.

PMSL.

Reminded me of an unfortunate story in my youth.

You know some people say don't go out with a loaded gun.(i.e have a wa.nk before you go out if your deffo getting your nuts)

Well I knew I was onto a winner so I thought to improve me performance I would have a sly tug before going to some birds. I got interupted mid W*nk and just left for the birds.

bad decision. I blew me load within 2 mins because I'd stopped mid-wa.nk.

Felt like a bellend.

Wrong tactic, the extra minutes you get by a previous W*nk is bread for today and hunger for tomorrow. Open a thread in off topic and I'll teach you some breathing tricks and exercises that will work from moment one, mate  :D
