Michael Shields has just been found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 15 years in jail.

It is now time for this country and the European courts to exert some political pressure to get this sentenced revoked.

Is it certain that he's innocent?

Even if he is guilty your government can take him back and judge him at his own land.

I think the fact someone else has come forward and admitted doing it kinda makes him innocent, but you wasnt to know that, This is a disgrace.

With confessions from the person who said they did it, is it not possible that he would be brought to Bulgaria and made testify to the court? He knows he's going to face a stretch of 15 years now, so it's not exactly enticing, but surely the government should be doing all in its power to see that the right person is punished and that the innocent Michael Shields, should be set free. I really cannot get over how quick this case has been shunted through that joke of a court. It only started late last week, and there's a conviction and sentence already. Unbelievable!

What are we to make of the lowlife sankey who did it, and who has made the confession? His life and those of his family, are ruined now, in the knowledge that his actions have sent a young lad to prison. If they have any pride or self worth, they will demand that he must go to Bulgaria and turn himself in. Or will it suit them to say that somebody has been found guilty and their son is innocent? Will his friends still go to matches with him? Would he dare go to matches at all? How could he live a normal life in Liverpool if he doesn't do the right thing?

I cannot believe we've heard the end of this.

I've got no axe to grind, but I'd just like to point out that just because someone confesses, it doesn't mean they did it.  I'm sure we all just want the guilty party behind bars.

Surely the will appeal. Does the fact that the guy who actually did it confessed means nothing to the Bulgarian justice system?

Absolutely Disgraceful.

The Bulgarian authorities are in no doubt they have convicted the wrong man.Sadly they will hold Michael hostage until the guilty party travels to Bulgaria and hands himself over to the police there. How such a country can expect to be allowed into the European Union when it has a very questionable human rights issue.

It's good to see the trophy boyz (the people who sing du the dudek) are making a difference:

TROPHY BOYZ PLEDGE SUPPORT TO SHIELDS CASE
Mark Platt 26 July 2005
The band who released a record in honour of Liverpool's Istanbul heroics have generously agreed to donate all proceeds from their single to the family of a Reds fan jailed in Bulgaria for a crime he insists he did not commit.
Michael Shields, 18, was today sensationally found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 15 years in a Bulgarian prison - despite another man confessing to the crime.

The Wavertree student was arrested in the Golden Sands holiday resort four days after watching Liverpool win the European Cup in Turkey.

His plight has touched the hearts of Liverpudlians everywhere and The Trophy Boyz, who were in town today to promote their new single 'Du The Dudek', were shocked and saddened to hear of this latest twist in the case.

The four Liverpool supporting band members all instantly decided that any profits they make from the record would be pledged to Michael's family.

Neil Reed, director of Diablo Records and spokesman for The Trophy Boyz told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We'd like to pledge our full support to Michael's family and friends at this distressing time. The band are upset at the injustice of the case and feel it is really important that we try to help out in any way we can.

"We came to a unanimous agreement straight away that any profits from the single go towards the families legal costs or whatever other costs they might be incurring.

"Since arriving in Liverpool today the people of this city have been brilliant towards us and we see this as a way of paying them back. If we can now get the people of Liverpool supporting this single then they will be supporting the campaign to free Michael Shields.

"We don't know how much the single will make but if we can get it as high up the charts as possible then it will help raise awareness of Michael's plight on a national scale."

Sankey has no option other than to stand up and turn himself in, otherwise he'll be a marked man in Liverpool and will have to spend the rest of his life watching his back
