Valverde would be a decent signing but doubt we are going to spend that amount to get him.  I think the U21 tournament is what we are looking at for the next addition.  That lad Gabri Viega is a quality player. Maybe not the type of midfielder we want but he looks like a proper player.  Had a good season in La Liga as well with 36 games,  double figure goals and assists.

I don't mind us buying youngsters but we are a top, top european side and we have to act like one and spend money to buy in quality. Young lads are punts, we need to accept to beat City, United and the Barcodes we're going to have to buy quality.

It's the owners who need convincing Reg, not me. They have never spent to catch City and won't start now. The ambition under FSG imo is that last CL place every year.

I agree about gambling on so much youth but this is the path they choose to follow. Mc Allister is our marquee player this year imo and probably the only signing we make that will be a starter.

Exactly.. and to think only 1 point separated us over 4 years in the league at one stage. This was always my fear having no valuable assets to sell on. FSG have this window to prove their worth as we've never been so desperate for a rebuild. If we don't spend over £100m at these desperate times, then we are finished under FSG.

Which is all the more baffling why we didn't plan ahead instead of letting everyone leave for free/cheap. If our modus operandi is sell to buy then we can't afford to be letting so many players leave without getting some money for them.

Annoyingly we wouldn’t have had to spend hundreds of millions to keep us where we were when we were on top. Had we spent on high quality prospects, we may have not needed to keep Keita and Ox until their contracts ran out as we would have had better alternatives. Same with the defense when we sold Lovren and never replaced him. They only seem to act when after the fact and last season was a great example. Their slowness in the transfer market is actually losing the club money.

They seem like they have their act together except on the reactive nature of our transfers.

He wouldn't work under those conditions and would have walked a long time ago.  We are so so lucky to have Klopp and it's just a shame he hasn't had better backing. If he was Manure or Chav boss he would have taken at least 3 or 4 of those titles off Pep in the last 6 years.

Which is fair enough.. but is 1 league title, and 2 Champions league titles in 22 years really a sign of one of the best sides in the world?

The model is fine if you keep the investment up, you cannot just keep going in these times by buying an up and coming player and a load of kids. Unfortunately we saw last season that we had an aging and injury prone midfield and only had kids as back up. A team will always require injections of quality to keep it at top level. If FSG had bought a top midfielder at the beginning of last season we would probably have qualified for the CL.

The transfer window seems very quiet at the moment, very little business being reported. Any reason for this you think?

Most players went straight on holiday after the season finished, now linked up with their international sides for the June qualifiers/friendly games and will continue holidays once done, and Euro U21s starts tomorrow. Think it will be quiet now until 1st/2nd week of July when teams start coming back for pre-season.

On the Euro U21s running from June 21 to 8 July, we are likely to see reported targets Thuram, Kone, Gravenberch, Veiga, Lavia, and Micky van de Ven. Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Sepp van den Berg are all there to so will be worth a watch.

On Mac Allister, I was ok with him coming in but not to bothered if he went elsewhere. But reflecting on it I think it's a really good move. We've bought a Premiership ready midfield whose career is on the up and he will be here on day 1 of pre-season. He'll be able to go straight into the starting 11 while others who join later or are coming from abroad will be slow burners.

They weren't long giving Werner the boot either whereas if we got him he would be still here. We have loads of players imo who aren't good enough but there is always a reason for keeping them.  I was reading the other day how Klopp pulled a masterstroke by sending Thiago for the hip op so he would be 100% fit for start of the season.  He will probably struggle after that to get to full fitness and will be in and out of the side. He will be free to walk next season as well.

Arsenal aren't messing around with the spending. If they sign him and Rice that will be 165 million!!   I really really hope someday we can become a big club like them.
