Totally out of left field this, but a well known ITK is saying this...

We understand Liverpool are willing to offer Lucas Leiva and Pepe Reina to Napoli in a deal for Gonzalo Higuain

Markovic set for Liverpool medical

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is on course to make his fourth signing of the summer with Benfica winger Lazar Markovic likely have a medical later this week.

With the B£75million transfer of Luis Suarez to Barcelona continuing over the next few days, the Reds boss is pressing ahead with his summer strengthening plans.

While Liverpool have given up hope of persuading Chile forward Alexis Sanchez to move from the Nou Camp as a makeweight in the Suarez deal, Press Association Sport understands 20-year-old Serbian Markovic is set to arrive on Merseyside before the end of the week as the finishing touches are put to a B£20million switch.

If there are no last-minute hitches the signing of Markovic would take the club's spending since the end of the season close to B£60million with further additions still expected.

Rodgers has already brought in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can and England internationals Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana and the Reds boss is keen to do a deal for the Southampton duo's team-mate Dejan Lovren, who has effectively said he will not play for the south-coast club again.

Liverpool have already had one bid rejected for the Croatia international, whom Saints rate at B£25million - way above the Merseysiders' valuation.

They are also closing in on a deal for Lille's Belgium World Cup striker Divock Origi, although the 19-year-old could be loaned back to his current club after the completion of a transfer worth up to B£10million.

Rodgers is also looking to bolster the left-back slot with interest in Sevilla's Alberto Moreno not yet dead despite the Spanish club holding out for B£20million after turning down a Reds bid of B£16million.

If Sanchez goes to Arsenal just because they are in London then fook him, not interested on a player who chooses a club based location

From Liverpool Echo....

Liverpool FC have received no approaches for Lucas Leiva but the long-serving midfielder's future at the club remains uncertain.

The Brazil international slipped down the pecking order last season and the summer acquisition of German midfielder Emre Can has further increased competition for places.

The Reds are prepared to listen to offers for the 27-year-old but so far none have been forthcoming.

Lucas has been linked with a move to Italy and a reunion with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli.

However, the ECHO understands that the Serie A outfit currently have no plans to table a bid to sign him this summer.

They would be interested in taking him on a season-long loan but they believe it's unlikely Liverpool would agree to a temporary switch.

Lucas spent two months on the sidelines after suffering knee ligament damage back in January and on his return he found his opportunities limited.

Brendan Rodgers' decision to switch to playing with just one holding midfielder left Lucas having to settle for bench duty with skipper Steven Gerrard operating in the deep lying role in front of the back four.

His lack of action contributed to him suffering the bitter disappointment of being overlooked by Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari for the World Cup in his homeland.

Speculation about Lucas' future has grown since fans noticed that he had removed any mention of Liverpool FC from his profile on Twitter. However, sources close to the player insist that change was made six months ago.

Lucas, who was back at Melwood for the start of pre-season training on Monday, has made 243 appearances for the Reds since his £5million switch from Gremio in 2007.

Pepe Reina remains available for transfer as the Spanish keeper prepares to return to Merseyside later this month.

The shot-stopper spent last season on loan at Napoli but the Italians have no intention of making the move permanent.

With Simon Mignolet now established as Liverpool's No 1, the Reds are keen to get Reina's £110,000 per week salary off the wage bill.

Back in February Rodgers effectively ruled out any possibility of an Anfield comeback for the 31-year-old, citing the open letter Reina wrote to fans last summer as his “goodbye”.

The Reds hope to off-load Reina and bring in a younger keeper to provide competition for Mignolet and Brad Jones.

Liverpool remain on course to complete the £25million transfer of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic by the end of this week.

The Serbian youngster is expected on Merseyside to undergo a medical either Thursday or Friday.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has put Liverpool FC on alert after reports in France claimed the Ivorian wouldn't return to the Etihad this summer.

The Daily Express reports that Toure interests both Liverpool and Chelsea after Le Parisien quoted an unnamed Ivory Coast teammate saying:  "He has accumulated too many grudges against [Manchester City's] leaders and he will not stay with them.

"He will do everything to ensure his departure this summer."

Paris Saint Germain will also enter the race for his signature should the 31-year-old confirm he is leaving.

Toure aired his grievances with City earlier this summer after accusing the club of failing to acknowledge his birthday.

Brendan Rodgers is targeting Dutch World Cup left-back Daley Blind, according to Ladbrokes .

The Reds are rumoured to be ready to buy the Ajax star in order to solve their left-back problems, although his form in Brazil could increase his price tag to almost £20m.

Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old.

Roma are set to rival the Reds in the chase for Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Liverpool Offside .

The Italian giants could make a £16m move for the Switzerland winger after Liverpool's own move has stalled.

However it is thought that the 24-year-old would prefer a move to the Premier League should he choose to leave German giants Bayern Munich.

Porto striker Jackson Martinez is unsure what will happen regarding his future and is aware of interest from other clubs.

Martinez has impressed during the past two seasons at Porto and his prolific form in front of goal has prompted speculation of interest from across Europe.

Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, have been linked with the Colombia international, while Atletico Madrid are also reported to be keen after selling Diego Costa to Chelsea.

The 27-year-old, who scored twice in Colombia's World Cup group stage win over Japan, has a further two years to run on his Porto contract and is waiting to see what unfolds.

"Right now, I don't know what will happen," Martinez told Colombian radio station La FM. "I have two more years on my contract with FC Porto.

"There is interest from some clubs, something that is perfectly normal when a player is performing well, but I always have to take into account the fact I am under contract and I have to respect it.

"Only time will tell what will happen."

Liverpool have agreed a fee and personal terms for Belgium striker Divock Origi but now face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the teenager.

Origi is due on Merseyside for talks with his father, with Liverpool confident of completing a £10 million deal.

As part of the arrangement, the 19-year-old will return to his current club Lille for next season.

Now Spurs are believed to have made a move for the youngster, although having been in constant talks for the player it would be a surprise if he was not Anfield bound in the near future.

Liverpool are also close to the signing of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic for £25 million.

Markovic will join Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can in transfer spree which will go beyond the £60 million mark, although funds are sure to be recouped in the coming days and weeks.

Luis Suarez is set to complete his move from Liverpool to Barcelona in the next 48 hours.

Reports in Spain claim Liverpool have finally agreed a fee for the bad-boy Uruguay striker, however Anfield sources say nothing will happen before Friday at the earliest.

Suarez has remained in Uruguay since being kicked out of the World Cup for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini and it is understood he is having his Barcelona medical in South America.

Barcelona's medical team have flown to Brazil to assess the back injury to Neymar, which ended his World Cup against Colombia, and will then check out Suarez

The precise fee and schedule of payments remain a sticking point and Liverpool want £75million, while Barcelona are trying to negotiate a lower price.

The Spanish giants also want to put a smaller figure down up front and pay more in installments.

Liverpool are keen for a large lump sum as a down payment to fund Brendan Rodgers' summer spending spree and Lazar Markovic is joining in the next 24 hours for £19.8million.

75 million cash or feck off, quite simple really.
