Thommo's perm is right, he has lost his way a bit.

Over hyped beyond all recognition, he's weak, poor decisions, average touch, average dribbler, has absolutely no power in his shot, cannot see a pass and doesn't know what positions to take up on the pitch.

The question you should be asking is whats right with him...

Because he's young and fast all of a sudden that makes a footballer? Do us a favour.

I used to think he would be another Shaun Wright-Phillips at best, whats scarey is he's not even that good.

For what it's worth, I agree with the arguement that Sterling is not any good.

The lad has no brain and no discipline. First touch is poor, can't shoot very well. Positioning sense is horrendous.
It was a mistake to give a new contract.

Same for Johnson... though for some different reasons....
No brains and in reality not a defender. For me, he doesn't have the drive either.

Both are athletes and to be honest, that's all that they have, IMO.

I actually rate hendo and lucas. Hendo is not a world beater of course but he is a sound player and a good squad member.
Lucas, I have always rated.... He is definitely not as good as I had hoped when we first got him and he took a long time to get going.... but an important cog in our machine.

New signings?
I like Toure and Mignolet. The rest are too new and there has been too little time to fully evaluate them... so benefit of the doubt has to be given.
With Johnson being out for a month, now may be a good time to see what exactly Sakho can do. If the sound bites are correct and he is even half as good as Thuram was in his prime, then we've gotten a damn bargain.

Yeah, I think he's been found out more than not being a.rsed. I thought this would happen with him. He doesn't seem to have an array of tools in his locker to get into a game and change it.

Id keep Hendo in the side for balance too.  If we need to, bring on Moses for Hendo.
I think Sakho will eventually get into the first 11.

not been the same since he signed his new contract.

Yet another example of a player who was thrust into the limelight far too soon. Our lack of options meant he became a regular in the first half of last season when he wasn't ready for it. Getting a full England callup after 6 games didn't help either when he should be learning his trade with the under 21's. Same with the likes of Andros Townsend and Ross Barkley now. They've had 3 good games and all of a sudden they're in the full England squad. No other country does that.

I will say one thing about his England call-up, it was done so as he would declare for England as apposed to a team from his birth place (Jamaica I think). But yeah his form really has fell off since around that time.

Just a little reminder of how talented the lad actually is

He is a very young lad who is still developing his game as well as maturing as a person

He was used far too often last season because of our lack of options and played well but because he played too often too soon into his career he started to suffer early signs of burnout which effected his form ( as opposed to his contract ). He has had a good pre season and has looked sharp again and will provide a good outlet as he matures more. To say it was a mistake to give him a contract is laughable - every top club was looking to snatch him off us and if we didnt give him a contract he could have walked away from the club. He has a lot of talent and under the right guidance will blossom very well. I would certainly prefer to see him in the team before Moses.

I agree with most of what you wrote there benny but the bit about putting him in the team before Moses? I think Moses is 2 or 3 years more advanced than Raheem is at this time, also raheem looks weak in the tackle and is far too easily manned off the ball. The kid has potential with out doubt but he needs to fine tune his game a bit more to be considered as a starter in the team.

He does need to develop and mature his game - and the best way to do that is to play on the pitch - so when any of our main front three aren't playing I would be playing Sterling or Ibe as opposed to Moses.

With out doubt he needs games to progress and gain the necessary experience he will need. Personally I would prefer to see him used more in the cup games or coming on when we aren't chasing or trying to see out games. There should be no other pressure on him to do anything else but to develop at this stage of his career.
