Lucas was out for 2 months and didn't look quite right when he came back, and only completed 16 games all season. With a good bit of rest and a full pre-season, if he is back to his best, then he is our first choice in that position - and so should be when on form.

It's all about the ifs, buts and maybes.  IF he is back to his best. IF he remains injury free IF..... etc etc

Bringing someone else in cuts down the risk, yes, but I guess the manager thinks an on form Lucas is good enough for a top four starting 11, and would rather portion his funds elsewhere for the moment.

My 2pence worth would be to bring someone in, but if we can't afford/attract a Yaya Toure / Masherano, then look at someone like West Ham's Mohamed Diame
Henderson is big, strong, has a good engine and very good technical abilities, he as lacking in confidence but is still young. He would be very good at that role.

I think the concept is however that you do not need a destroyer if you play "tiki-taka" type football you need quick technically gifted players making a lot of runs of the ball playing basically two touch football. If you did get a destroyer in the middle he better be someone that is quick and technically gifted. Notice there was no room for Mascherano in Barca's midfield they played him as a defender as he was not "technical" enough.

Big and strong are not normally words used to describe Henderson - certainly not seem him use those attributes much so far even when playing well - good engine and energetic yes

I know one of the lads that was waiting for the players at the hotel in Melbourne tonight went up to Ian Ayre with an Eriksen top on and asked him if we'd sign him. He just laughed and said "he's a great player"

Not sure how to read that. It seems strange that Milan havent wrapped up the deal yet.

Definitely agree with Benny. We are lacking a powerful presence in the middle. Again, I don't mean a lump who just win's the ball and passes it. I mean someone who is comfortable on the ball, can run with it and bring it up the pitch. A Toure, Dembele and maybe even a Ramires to a certain extent are good examples. Wanyama certainly looks like he could fall in that mould to. Thought he was immense for Celtic when they played Barca. Thought Hendo showed glimpses of what he can do last season. Whether he can progress and become the all round midfielder I don't know.

Ayre says that Eriksen is a good player - what exactly is there to read into that apart "Ayre thinks Eriksen is a good player" !

Do you read anything else into it ?

It's not just about having a destroyer though - its having someone who is physically strong and has power in his game - even for us Masher didnt have that - he didnt need too because we had Sami , and Gerrard and even Torres who have a bit of power in their game

It's great to have technical players but we seem to be just looking for the small technical players which is great but you need the balance - look at Bayern , some big physical players in their team who out fought and powered Barce - they couldn't cope.

We have no one in the team to add that extra dimension up front in the middle or at the back. We will suffer because of it.

Have you really never seen Gerrard bossed in the middle of the park ?

Our midfield has spent the last 3 season being bossed on regular occasions

I don't think Rodgers really wants an out and out destroyer type Midfielder.

And that mistake will become clear as the season unfolds

I've brought up the name of a player who I think would be incredible for us in a holding role.  Michael Bradley.  The reason I've brought the name up is not just because he's from the US.  It's because I've watched his games and I think he'd do very well for us.  Very robust in the tackle (actually had some issues being sent off a lot early in his career, but has sorted that out).  Better than Lucas in a destroyer role and offers a lot more going forward. He is a complete midfielder, and one I would be over the moon with if we signed.  I'd guarantee after half a season watching him, all reds would be too.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.
