I know he hasn't had a real chance with us, but anything more than at least two thirds of what we paid for him and he can go. Cardiff don't have that kind of money though.

This is true, he arrived in Liverpool last night. Medical today and deal wrapped up later today.

I think he needs/deserves and will get more time with us.  Its bad enough taking a bath on Carroll, but at least he was the last manager's buy.  BR bought Allen, and identified him as a key purchase for his project.  I cannot see him letting him go so soon.  Next season, free from this shoulder injury and with better players in the side, he needs to justify the faith and price tag.

I don't think that he offers something that, for example, Henderson doesn't. Hendo is also not as one dimensional as Allen and could also play further forward. Not to mention he has a far better work rate. The only thing that Allen does is getting the ball out of defense and passing it sideways. I'm sure Henderson would have no problems doing this. Lucas as well (who can also put in a tackle, unlike Allen).

Aspas on the verge of signing then.  7.7mil, one season in the top flight scoring 12 goals and with 6 assists in a poor side.

City have today signed Navas.  14.9 mil, no goals last season in over 30 games with 6 assists.

Navas is well known due to everyone mainly due to his Spain caps and Sevilla's couple of good seasons in Europe a few years back.  He's a skilful player but for me there are doubts over his end product and there are question marks over his ability to cope abroad with previous homesickness problems.

I'll make a prediction now that Aspas will be a successful signing and Navas will flop.  There you go.

I understand the concerns about Aspas only having one season in the top flight in Spain, but some players take a while to hit their peak - Michu, Drogba, Van Persie.  I wouldn't write him off that's for sure.

If you just use last season then Aspas will look more attractive but then look at the previous seasons - Navas is purely a winger - all about the assists for him as opposed to goals - before last season he was getting 12 -15 assists a season.

Ill make a prediction that Aspas will amount to nothing

his CV isnt stellar but that doesnt mean it`s set in stone that he`ll flop. hopefully he`ll step up to the plate.

Armenia and Denmark played today, and Armenia absolutely spanked them. Mkhitaryan vs. Eriksen.  Mkhitaryan with a goal and an assist.  If we really are trying to sign him, we better do it fast.

Under Rodgers Benny says this:

Under Kenny Benny says this:

Players like , Mata , Hazard and Navas are very highly thought off , very good things said about them , hyped up a lot and have performed well in their respective leagues - But there is no guarentee they would work out in the prem .

It is amazing to see that a different Liverpool manager, can either make Navas a highly coveted player or a risky signing.

It's quite remarkable how the persona of a manager makes fans rate any individual player better or worse than he is.

*see Downing thread for confirmation of this.

The second quote also implies Hazard and Mata would be risky signings (during the time we were managed by KK), however, you can bet your bottom dollar Brendan Rodgers should be making these kinds of signings: no ifs, buts or maybes and even though we can't attract this caliber of player anyway because we're not in the CL we should still be signing them.  :D

We have a 35 million striker who thrives on balls into the box so we have purchased the guy who has completed the most successful amount of crosses in the prem .

People are always looking for the big name multi million pound supposed"world class " signings .

Maybe it's time now to build a team - the sum of all parts as opposed to talented individuals .

Adam , Henderson and Downing may not be on the level off the Messi's and Tevez's etc but if they all contribute to the team then that's all we can ask .

Is out squad better than the day Kenny took over ?

Yes massively better - look at what Kenny did with that squad - only two teams got more points than us . Imagine what he will do next season .

We also have to look at how players see us - we can't offer European football , massive wages and that puts us on the back foot straight away .

Downing , Adam and Henderson are signings which improve our team and squad and we help us get back into the top 4

Again, it was fair of the manager [at the time] to blow millions of pounds on said players above, add Carroll to that list too - 3 out of 4 are average and the other is good, no world beaters in that list by any means., however.....

This was deemed fair because at the time we didn't have to buy the "Messi's and Tevez's" of this world, so long as they were contributing to a team "then that's all we can ask".

Yet, when Rodgers looks to buy players 'that contribute to a team' we hear metaphorically speaking he should be signing the likes of "Messi and Tevez" not signing unknowns like Aspas for 7M pound. Never mind the fact Coutinho was relatively unknown and was risky, well certainly if Mata and Hazard are but perhaps we should give Rodgers the benefit of the doubt, at least. After all, he's not spunking 20M on Downing, 20M on Henderson and 35M on Carroll is he - again they're no world beaters by any stretch but under Kenny's watch it was okay for him to 'build a team'. Double standards. Again.

"We need one/two centre-halves, and I'm looking to bring 20 more goals into the team -  so I'm also looking at an offensive player to give us a real threat on goal and another attacking midfield player," he [Rodgers] added.

No speak of a DM which imo is a little worrying. I bet he thinks Allen will be one of 3 to play that role.
