Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Looks to be Downing's replacement (hopefully) and at 20M and who has offered next to nothing; this lad could actually add something at half the price, like a goal threat for starters.

PS. we have some f.ucking drama queens on here.

A goal threat ? 1 goal in every 4 mainly in the second division ???

His record is alongside someone like David Nugent who is a 1 in 3 striker in the lower divisions

Would we be claiming him as a good signing ?

Sky Sports sources understand Liverpool have agreed a fee with Celta Vigo to sign highly-rated striker Iago Aspas.

The 25-year-old has scored 60 goals in 130 appearances for Celta and was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League in January.

Reading showed an interest, but were put off by Aspas' price, while Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City had also been mooted as admirers.

However, it is now understood that Liverpool are poised to win the chase for Aspas, who has a €10million (£8.6m) release clause in his contract.

If Liverpool can tie up a deal for the forward, he will become the second signing for Brendan Rodgers since the end of the Premier League season.

On Tuesday, the Reds confirmed that Manchester City defender Kolo Toure had agreed to move to Anfield on a free transfer in the summer.

Aspas' immediate priority, though, is on Celta's relegation battle, with the club inside the relegation zone with just one game to play.

Celta are a point adrift of fourth-bottom Deportivo La Coruna and face Espanyol at home in the final game of the season in La Liga on Saturday.

Although I am a little underwhelmed by our signing Aspas, i am not going to slag anyone off until i see them play at LFC. Okay he hasn't exactly set the world aligh so far its not easy if you are playing in a poor team. If we had signed michu last year some would have been slagging him off as useless but now he is being hailed as an underrated gem and the benchmark for lower cost talent and he didn't really do much prior to last season at Swansea. so lets give players a chance before we write them off.

So we could have signed anyone and you would think its a good signing ?

But 9 mil to fill a squad ?
countinho was relatively unknown yet that transfer looks like one to work out.

How about wind your neck in and pipe up if the transfer fails not before the lad has even kicked a ball for us.

Your negativity has not subsided since Benayoun left

Coutinho wasn't relatively unknown at all - he had played regular football for top clubs around the world as well as being recognised by his country at various levels internationally.

It appears that BR can sign anyone and people aren't allowed to say anything negative !!

It's 9mil on a 25year old player who so far has achieved what sort of recognition ?!

The point is waiting.

So the signing has some risk associated with it, get over it. It won't be the first time a club takes a punt on a player. What gripes most of us on here is the inability of some (mainly you) to allow a player to prove himself, actually the way you been harping on you'd criticise the club for signing Messi.

actually he does look quite good.
at 20 though not sure he`s ready to be a starter for the first team, he looks like a skillfull version of shelvey going by his youtube clips.

Havent seen anything of Aspas myself as I havent seen a great deal of spanish football this season.

However the few people I have spoken to including Sabre who used to post regulaly on here are very excited by him.
The description is of a player that can play in all forward positions who is tenacious and scores different kinds of goals.
He is meant to be a fighter and a player that shouldnt struggle to cope with the physicallity of the premiership.

Like Bam has said if he is being signed to play where Downing played the majority of last season the lad only needs to score a few and work hard to be an improvement.

It's strange that he is being written off so soon given the season he has just had and the endorsement given by Ballague etc.

Ive got a mate who has been working in Spain for the last 18 months, he reckons that Aspas is an excellent bit of business, ok he hasnt scored many this year but he has been playing in a really poor team and has been the stand out performer.. give the lad a chance!

Erikson did not want to come to Liverpool.. end of!  He pretty much said as much in a recent interview which I am trying to find.

Sone proper drama queens on this site, shouting ***** about BR when realistically none of us know what is going on behind the scenes.. do you think BR would not want Erikson? He would fit perfectly into the style of play he wants us to play, but if he doesnt want to come he isnt going to come is he??
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Barcelona having been tracking him for ages apparently.

You need to come to terms with our transfer strategy of buying young upcoming talent.

I'm guessing you're not talking about this Apas guy ? As he is neither young or upcoming talent

If not why would Barce be tracking a player in their own club ?

Michu went for a very small fee and before his transfer was the top scorer midfielder in LaLiga.

Being a shining light in a relegated team is how we got someone like Adam.

If this guy is that highly rated in Spain then are the top Spanish clubs and International manager missing something Ballbag is seeing.

If the guy was a couple mil and was around 20 then can understand the risk - but a 25 year old at 7-9mil doesn't look good to me.

It is the equivalent of signing Charlie Adam - mid 20's lower league player bought for too much money

apparently we went off erikssen when coutinho turned out to be such a big hit, with a limited budget like ours it`s a distinct possibility that rodgers decided that strengthening other area`s of the team was more of a priority.
i`m not against signing up and coming talents on the cheap (like this luis alberto lad we`ve just signed), i`m just against blowing half our transfer budget on someone like this aspas, if we would have got him for £2m or something then maybe i could understand but £9m euro`s?
we already have a sizable points gap to close between us and the teams that finished above us, the odds of us bridging that gap by blowing half of our transfer kitty on someone like aspas when united, chelsea and city are being linked with the likes of fabregas, modric, rooney and ronaldo must be huge.
and the fact that luis looks almost certain to leave has sent those odds spiralling even higher.

He means Luque, he is a Seville player that has been on loan at Barca B last season.
