Denied the charges though his Lawyer pleaded not guilty for him. Support the lad until proven guilty

Fair enough and we'll see when all is said and done. Generally he would not be charged without sufficient evidence. At the very least this will be an unneeded distraction.

From espn

Raheem Sterling will stand trial on May 20 over the alleged assault of a woman in Liverpool regardless of his attendance on that date, a court heard.

The 18-year-old is charged with common assault after a 27-year-old woman, known to the player, suffered "slight" facial injuries, according to police.

Sterling did not attend a hearing at Liverpool Magistrates Court for the third time but was allowed to enter a formal not guilty plea through his solicitor, Mick Hogan, on this occasion.

District Judge Lloyd then issued a warning to Sterling that the trial would go ahead on May 20 - the day after Liverpool's final match of the season, at home to QPR - even if he failed to turn up.

"I am sure he understands that he will need to attend," she said. "If he doesn't, the trial will proceed without him."

Lloyd had questioned Sterling's absence earlier in the short hearing, saying: "It would be much more useful if he was here. But anyway, there it is. We have got what we have got."

The offence allegedly took place in the Toxteth area of Liverpool on November 2, 2012.

The incident occurred when Sterling was 17 and was initially to be dealt with at Liverpool Youth Court but, after his 18th birthday in December, the case was transferred to the adult courts.

Sterling made his senior international debut for England last November against Sweden and has earned plaudits during his 35 appearances for Liverpool this season.

Did the witness commit suicide with 3 stab wounds in the back?

I suppose so Kewell, but he also needs to keep himself out of situations that might end up in the courts in the first place.  A father of two kids shortly after his 18th Birthday and being brought to court for assault on a woman?  Not a good way to begin adulthood.

He needs to grow up,  quickly.  Perhaps too quickly.  But it needs to happen.  Just because he's a footballer with loads of talent doesn't give him the right to carry on in a manner that takes no regard for his actions.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I don't know the ins and outs of this case, but would wager that it was some chancer trying to earn a buck by making unfounded accusations against a wealthy footballer.

As you say, it'll be a wake up call for the lad and i'm sure he'll keep his wits about him to avoid any potential situations because sadly there's a lot of people out there who will do their level best to profit out of any minor confrontation with LFC players.

from what i understand he got too big for his boots, the club felt that his skill was ok for the first team but he needed to grow up a bit and understand that he still had a long way to go to be a good player...something SG spoke about when ask how good our young players are.

We should be looking to offload this kid, he is far more trouble than he's worth, constantly getting into trouble these days.
