it was that start that sunk us (and not just on the field) because over the last 5 months only united and spurs have accumilated more points.
i know it`s 2 steps forward and one step back but we are going in the right direction.

We seem to have a history of finishing strong when the pressure is off

What we need is a winning mentality!

We seem to have a recent history of starting our season in November, the three months prior to that and the players seem to think they're still on their deck chairs with a pina colada in one hand and a t.it in the other.

I have a major concern which LFC fans don't seem to have picked up on.

The owners stated their plan to take the Reds back to the top via young talent introduced early into the first team backed up by under valued older players still with something to offer in experience, talent and bringing through the younger lads. Only LFC have not actually bought any older players to fulfill this prophesy.

My concern is the report: 'Pressure of top-four target too much for Liverpool' says club's psychiatrist Steve Peters who 'has urged the club to make a Premier League title or top-four finish an aspiration rather than a concrete goal'. In other words that the young lads aren't mature enough to visualise success then create it in the same way the Olympic cyclists could.

An Olympic athlete lives and breaths the dream, getting out of bed and training 8 hours a day with a single, determined objective - gold. Our footballers do not have that same determination as they are lesser educated with too much money, too young. So the team 'wants' to win, but don't have the absolute fire necessary to convert desire to reality. So where does that leave the owners business plan?

I assume (oh dear...) that Peters has submitted a detailed report to Ayres and the owners highlighting their plan is flawed. Only 5 of the first team have cooperated but what does it say that on one hand they don't get involved yet we're still making half-cock performances like Southampton etc..?

The most recognised sports shrink has stated our lads should make coming Top 4 'an aspiration...' isn't that how Villa and WBA see it? That's not aligned to the owners desire to win the league and once again stinks of a 5 year plan to put the nerves behind them and mature.

I believe the owners need to take this snippet of news given to the media very seriously and get out there and bring in 2-3-4 older players asap who will guide these youngsters through the next 2 seasons.  Gary Mac, where are you son? The best known sports shrink says our dependency on youngsters will not win us the league and maybe not even top 4 for CL, how many more million will we waste before we change our plans?

There is a big difference between olympians and Prem footballers not only the amount of money they get but the majority of Olympians are competing for themselves not a team, ok, in track cycling you have events such as team pursuit but the better they can be as an individual means they can also attain a place in the individual pursuit. The other thing is you have to be aiming for the top in your own right as you cannot simply transfer to another team to give yourself a better chance to win.

I don't understand why only 5 of the 1st team have 'cooperated', should they be given a choice? should they not want to cooperate seeing how successful this guy has been with our cyclists. However, although i agree that we should buy some more experienced players, surely the younger players would be easier to handle and accept new ideas more readily than an older player who maybe more of a luddite

I don't accept that the attitude of the great Liverpool sides was any less determined or focused than first class cyclists or Olympians. It boils down to confidence and self-belief which focused athletes have - how come Jonny Wilkinson slots penalty after penalty under enormous pressure for England but our lads can't even get a shot on goal or put a decent corner goal into the box?  The All Blacks reign supreme in rugby as a team as the Reds did in the 80's... that's what Steve Peters is trying to replicate but he's saying our lads aren't mentally strong enough. I don't think its complicated, its a straight forward statement.

Think everyone can see that we need a few more leaders in the squad.  Gerrard and Reina are the only real leaders we have that are vocal on the pitch and always present themselves in the right manner.

We could do with a few more vocal players.

This is part of the problem with football today, the never ending quest of how to improve confidence and self belief.
Due to the influence of European methods and players and coaches from around the world coming into the Premier League things have become complicated.
Yet the game stays the same: 11 v 11. I think sometimes its over analysed and made out to be much more intricate than it really is and this has affected the mentality of players.
Jumpers for goalposts, goalie in an out and next goals the winner would sort a lot of this sh'it out!

Oh FFS, this is exactly why we will remain cr@p as long as we have these useless owners and idiot MD. Why on earth would Manure give us any useful advice? that would be bad business, leaving aside the fact that they hate us as much as we hate them.
Why oh why can't some super rich Arab or Russian buy the club, its the only way we'll get back to the glory days now.

The reason we will remain ***** is because we have fans who think we aren't capable of being successful until some super rich Arab or Russian buy the club, and don't show proper support.  And it's not bad business if United were to help us out.  If we become stronger as a club, it means the league is more competitive.  When the league is more competitive, it's more interesting and more profitable.

I know many of us on here have such high educations and are much smarter than FSG, who have raised sports franchises and made millions and millions of dollars because THIS IS WHAT THEY DO.  They know what they're doing, and we can bitch about it on forums all they want, but no matter how you look at it they have done a lot of good for the club on the side we don't pay attention to.  Businesses talk to competing businesses, it benefits both sides.  Owners will talk to owners.  We need to stop acting like our owners are some spoiled kids who inherited a lot of money and decided to buy a football club, because that's not what happened.
