What? Failing strategy?

they look to recruit the best young players for the team.
they're not been held to ransom by over inflated wage demands.
They sorted shirt sponsership (Std Charterd) which was one of the most lucrative deals ever.
they ditched drab Adidas in favour of Warrior, once again the most lucrative deal in the league.
They plan to invest into Anfield to increase capcity.
They appointed Kenny to stablise the sinking ship.
They then replaced Kenny with a good young manager who if all goes to plan could be here for a long long time (stability again)
they're not afraid to admit when they've made a boo boo (Carroll-shipped him to west ham, next stop will be out of the club)

if thats a failing strategy I'll take a bath in the Mersey!

failing strategy... I've heard it all now.

Can I just say that if Sterling doesn't want to sign with us then he can bugger off, I really wouldn't see that as a big loss. Sure he has potential but its far to early to tell if he will become a success. Certianly judging by the last 4-5 games he is becoming less and less influential

It was Hicks, Gillett and Ian Ayre that sorted out the Standard Chartered deal, not Fenway Sports Group.

David Moores, Hicks and Gillett and now Fenway Sports Group have all wanted to improve our stadium capacity, albeit by different methods, yet the results are still the same: all talk and no action.

They might not be afraid to admit when they are wrong, but they are afraid to give the manager that was their 'number one choice' the backing he needs, it's clear to me that they are afraid to putting investment into the team. They are so deluded into thinking that this club can be successful spending 1/3 of the transfer budget that is available to the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd.

They want us to follow the Arsene Wenger model and how's that working out for Arsenal? They can't even beat Bradford City, four leagues below them and their best player last year has fecked off to their rivals and has around 13 goals in 19 appearances.

the fans are up in arms at arsenal though, they think they are being milked by the owners and apparently their AGM a few weeks ago was very stormy (by all accounts it was practically a slanging match because quite a few `average joe` fans who hold just 1 or 2 shares managed to get into the meeting) and fans have held protest marches to the ground similar to the ones held here during H&G reign too.
a lot of ex-arsenal players have urged the board to start spending as well.
the arsenal model that fsg hold up as a shining example could be on the verge of falling apart.

You clearly didn't watch the West Ham game, he set up Joe Cole's goal.

Arsenal do spend money though, they spent £15m on Cazorla, £11m on Podolski and £13m on Giroud this season, that's £39m and last season they spent £48m . Their problem is the fact that their star players are always heading out the door. Sure they can attract talented players like the three they signed this season, but they have lost a lot of their best players. Nasri and Fabregas last season, Van Persie and Song this season. There's now reports that Sagna might be off next summer as well. The board at Arsenal are not the main problem, it's Arsene Wenger who is the problem at Arsenal.

I think the only way Arsenal will move forward as a club is when they replace Arsene Wenger with a younger, hungrier manager who has fresh ideas.

Our problem is the reverse our Owners write open letters to supporters, they talk a good talk, but there is very little action here. Rodgers inherited an average squad, an 8th place squad, he's given around £30m to spend and is expected to get us back into contention with the top four despite the fact Chelsea, City and United have nearly our entire transfer budget on a single player. I think Brendan is doing a very good job given the restrictions placed upon him by FSG. Arsenal's board time and time again have backed Wenger, it is Wenger who seems to think he can still unearth a £500,000 gem and challenge the likes of Chelsea and City who actively throw crazy amounts of money at some of the finest talent in football. You cannot compete like that anymore. Wenger can sign an unknown French player for £1m, but then Chelsea go out and spend £32m on a proven talent. The whole Arsenal model has been nothing but a failure and next summer it will be 8 years without any success.

For all of Kenny's faults last season, I was delighted that we won trophy and actually took our domestic cup matches seriously. I hope that we can really launch an assault on the FA Cup this season and the Europa League because I would love us to be hoisting more silverware come May.

Short term memory I see.

Arsenal did spend in the last window, but almost every window prior to that they made an overall profit. Profit!

Are football clubs in the sport to make profits or win trophies?

It was always my understanding that trophies were the most important thing in football. Yes, Arsenal are making profits, they're making profits because they are selling off their best players who realise what an ambitionless club the Gunners are and are off to win trophies at clubs like Barcelona and Manchester City and Manchester United. Clubs that want to win all the trophies they are entered.

United make profit each year, why not take on board their mantra of being as successful on the pitch as off it? Arsenal might be successful in terms of generating a profit, but they are a failure in a football perspective and have been for the past 7 and a half years.

The Arsenal model is not what this club should be following. No fan remembers the team who made a £40m profit at the end of a season, they remember the teams who won trophies at the end of a season.

boxscarf...  you say that fsg are afraid to back their manager.  that's a guess. we'll see in January.  they were never gonna give bR millions last summer,  the poor fella hadn't had s chance to Analise  his team in competitive match.  he wouldn't have known where to spend it.  he now does know all too well so we'll  see if they back him now.

As an owner you should be backing your manager in every single transfer window to the best of your ability. FSG have said they won't invest their own wealth into our club, that's fine, they want the club to be sustainable and want us to generate our own revenue, that's fine too. If all we make a season is £30m through revenue streams then they need to work harder on securing more sponsorship and more revenue into our club. Mr Ferguson has on average £70m to spend every single season, that's the kind of budget that Brendan needs to start making us more and more competitive. You don't need the wealth of Chelsea and City to win league titles and cups, but you sure as hell need more than £30m a season.

If FSG cannot back the manager financially then they should do the right thing and find someone who can back the manager. As I say we don't need to spend hundreds of millions, we do however need to spend money.

Probably because we wont give him a contract that reflects his status as a first team player.

If RS is going to hold us ransom, then he is very mercernaric and will most likely be a journeyman player. And any club wouldn't want to have such a player around regardless of how good he is. Glad we're looking into signing Tom Ince back, he plays on the right wing and can easily take over RS role. On the left wing, we still have Assaidi. So even if he goes, all is not lost. It is the manager's leadership and tactics and of course, the financial backing that really matters.

and I'll repeat myself...     Give them a chance to do just that! Summer wasn't the right time, too much change going on but January and the next summer, thats the time when we start strengthening the squad. we must trust in their plan. If however after a few more years we've seen them not invest and we slip further behind then we have the right to call them and act. but until then, 1 rushed summer window is not anyway to judge them.

if we lost sterling it would be a devastating blow and it would send out all the wrong signals.
plus ince was mainly a left winger for us.
ince played in the same side as sterling and suso and although both were younger than ince they were definately the 2 jewels in the crown, if we lose sterling and end up with ince that would be a massive downgrade imo.
people are getting carried away with ince`s form in the championship, shelvey was brilliant for blackpool too and although he`s decent he`s hardly a world beater yet and at ince`s age andy carroll didnt just play well in the championship he ripped it to shreds.
sterling is seen as one of the best prospects in years, for him to come through our ranks and then jump ship to city or united or someone of that ilk would be a huge blow to our prestige.
