if FSG wants to appoint avb, i rather they appoint deschamps. i least he has done it with club and country and as a player and a manger.

deschamps manager records:

Monaco

Coupe de la Ligue: 2003
Ligue 1 Runner-up: 2002–03
UEFA Champions League Runner-up: 2003–04

Juventus
Serie B: 2007

Marseille

Ligue 1: 2009–10
Ligue 1 Runner-up: 2010-11
Coupe de la Ligue: 2010, 2011, 2012
Trophée des Champions: 2010, 2011

and Kenny's record blows the lot out of the picture but we still dumped him.
It's unpredictble who we will end up with but if I was a betting man I'd have a few quid on AVB

I would take AVB over Martinez any day

you know how much i love Rafa Metalhead and would take him back in a heartbeat , but i dont think he will be our next manager , to much was said about him to FSG from within the club, and he has not been approached

i seriously doubt fsg will even talk to benitez and imo have their man already in their minds and thats either martinez or avb.
i would however take avb over martinez but there isnt much between them and i dont think either should really be considered over benitez.
avb looked clueless last year with the chavs and i think its the english game he was struggling with more so than the ego's at the club.the players seen this and he eventually lost them.

i hate all this waiting

If I had to bet Id put money on AVB or Martinez.  But I don't have any real belief that either will deliver a Top 4 finish... especially in their first season.  And as our owners have proved, failure to finish top 4 will most likely result in the manager losing his job.

Think we could well be having this same conversation next year.  Also think a DOF or a similar enough role will be filled before a manager is appointed.

Who is currently advising FSG?

AVB wasnt given a chance at chelsea. Look at the disasters Spurs and Arsenal had this season then look how they finished. TBH a top 4 place next year is vast improvement and i think 1) He is capable of producing top 4  2) our squad is better then chelseas

I should also add... it should be top 3 we're targeting.  4th guarantees nothing.

I think we should get real now and stop saying if the manager doesnt reach 4th he will be sacked. FSG know this is too much of an expectation for a new manager to achieve in his first season. They will give the next man more time but he will have to progress

I don’t think Kenny had to get top 4 to keep his job. He just needed to get a lot closer than 17 points.

But even if we had of finished 4th, we still would of achieved the same end result.  Europa Qualificaton, FA cup runners up and Carling Cup Champions.
This season has proved that aiming for 4th alone is a risky strategy anyways.

So the facts we have are that Martinez has been approached for talks and has accepted. Rodgers, de Boer, and Klopp have turned down the chance to speak to the club and Unai Emery has signed a contract with Spartak Moscow. I’d think that the remaining candidates will come from the below list.

1. Andre Villas-Boas
2. Roberto Martinez
3. Rafael Benitez
4. Frank Rijkaard
5. Jurgen Klinsmann
6. Didier Deschamps
7. Fabio Capello
8. Michael Laudrup
9. Pep Guardiola
10. Jose Mourinho
11. Paul Lambert
12. Guus Hiddink
13. Louis Van Gaal
14. Carlo Ancelotti
15. Laurent Blanc
16. Ottmar Hitzfeld

David Dein is supposedly the man advising FSG but that has just come from The LIverpool Way site, so it's probably *****.

Just keep in mind we are only hearing about the managers that have turned down talks. Those that accept won’t be talking about it in the media. The only reason we know about Martinez is because Dave Whelan is a media whore and was on the phone to Sky Sports within 30 minutes of receiving the call from the club.
