Give Suarez away for 40 million, pay down the debt, bring Carol back and play him alongside err... Downing and Henderson and we're back to the good old days. Cost to the club? Nowt.

talking of Carroll...what's going on with his West Ham transfer?  Do they have to sign him for 20 million if they stay up, or can they do an Aquliani and send him packing if we refuse to budge on price?

The fee is closer to £16mil and the details on if they have to or it's a minimum fee if they want him are unsure at the moment

Hearing rumours about Weiman from Villa. 21 years old 8 goals in 37 apperances for Villa. 0 goals in 4 apperances for Austria.

If we can get him cheap Under 3 million it might be a good bit of business. Although i dont think a striker should be priority

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in young Danish star Christian Eriksen, following final checks during the international break.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been impressed with scouting reports about the Ajax playmaker and, after watching him play for his country against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria over the past week, the Anfield club are ready to take the plunge with a firm offer.

After refusing the Dutch giants' offer of a new contract, 21-year-old Eriksen will be made available for transfer in the summer as he will be entering the final year of his current deal.

The midfielder’s profile suits Liverpool’s blueprint for new players so perfectly, they are ready to go head to head with the likes of Inter Milan, Tottenham and perhaps Chelsea - who have been linked with Eriksen recently - for his services.

Eriksen's fee will be reduced because of the short term left on his contract, so there is the prospect of the transfer-market value the Reds crave these days.

Rodgers knows there will be competition for a player who already has 34 Denmark caps, but he believes he has two trump-cards he can play.

Not only is Liverpool centre-half Daniel Agger the midfielder's captain at international level, but Eriksen also played alongside Luis Suarez when he first broke into the Ajax first-team in 2010.

The player is also known to have an affinity for the Reds and has hinted strongly in recent weeks that he will leave Holland at the end of the season, with a switch to the Premier League his most likely option.

“I don’t know if I will be an Ajax player after the summer - we will see what happens. I don’t exclude anything,” he said.

“I haven’t received a detailed offer of a contract extension yet, but my agent has had talks with the club regarding that matter.”

Liverpool were busy during the international break, with Eriksen one of several summer targets to be scouted while playing for their country.

Rodgers is determined to add a creative midfielder in the close-season, and he has identified several targets, to try to ensure he doesn’t miss out if his first choice is tempted away elsewhere.

The Anfield boss is also highly impressed by Armenia attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and sent Anfield’s head of analytics Michael Edwards - one of the key men in Liverpool’s recruitment team - to Yereven to watch the 24-year-old play for his country against Czech Republic.

Edwards was joined by Barry Hunter, Liverpool's overseas scout.

Even though Armenia were beaten 3-0, the pair were impressed by Mkhitaryan, who took man of the match honours in a losing cause.

The sticking point with the 24-year-old has always been the fee - Shaktar Donetsk want £23million for a player they are convinced will become one of the top stars in Europe.

Again, Mkhitaryan has aroused interest from other Premier League clubs as well as Italy, but Rodgers will continue to monitor the situation to see if he can negotiate a price that fits into his budget.

Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa and Brazilian defender Dede are also on Liverpool’s radar.

FIFA, meanwhile, have confirmed no action will be taken against Luis Suarez despite the punch he threw at Chile defender Gonzalo Jara while playing for Uruguay this week - unless the incident is mentioned in the fourth official's report.

The world game’s governing body have already said referee Nestor Pitana didn't refer to the punch in his match report, and they will not take any retrospective action.

It's great that we're linked with a player like Eriksen. If he comes here he will, without doubt, improve the attacking side of our midfield.

But, the thing is, we have a lot of midfielders already. If we sign this kid, will that mean that it will be the end of Shelvey's and/or Henderson's career at Liverpool? I'm sure Brendan won't get rid of Allen, and Lucas is our second best midfielder right now. Gerrard will probably keep playing for at least 2 seasons. If we bring Eriksen at Anfield, it will surely mean that we'll have to get rid of at least one midfielder, and Henderson and Shelvey are the prime candidates. Not to mention that we should also be looking for a more physical midfield player, like Diame or that Celtic player we were linked with. Will that mean that we'll have to ship out both of them?

Personally, I'd like them to stay. Both of them are the main players for England U21 right now and both are showing how much potential they have. Henderson has been good for Liverpool this season as well, and Shelvey was not so bad either until the incident with the scum. I really hope Rodgers still has them in his plans, but judging by our targets it doesn't look good for (at least one of) them.

The Real deal: Liverpool plan to bring Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso back in £8.5m deal
30 Mar 2013 23:00

Brendan Rodgers hopes to reunited the Spain playmaker with captain Steven Gerrard in a midfield to be feared

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to hand Steven Gerrard a new two-year deal, writes the Sunday People.

The England captain, who has one more season remaining on his £130,000-a-week contract, will be 33 in May but Rodgers believes he can play at the top for several more years.

And he would love to reunite him in midfield with old pal Xabi Alonso by sealing an £8.5million deal for the Real Madrid star.

American-based owner John Henry and the Fenway Sports Group are anxious to cut costs at Anfield, but Rodgers will stress to them just how important Gerrard is to the club.

And Reds legend Gerrard is the man Rodgers may rely on to lure former team-mate Alonso back to the club and thrill the fans. The Reds have been looking into the transfer since learning that talks between the 31-year-old midfielder and Real Madrid over a new deal had stalled.

Liverpool are believed to have made contact with Alonso’s agent, with talk of an £80,000-a-week deal on the table.

But Gerrard is the priority for Rodgers. As he prepared for today’s trip to Premier League strugglers Aston Villa, the Anfield chief said: “Steven has a year left and it’s something he and I are about to discuss.”

With FSG's strategy of buying players with sell-on value I can't see them spending 8.5 mil on Alonso or 10 mil on Williams.  I think we do lack leadership this season though and especially when Carra retires we'll lack it even more.  Perhaps they're going to make an exception this summer and bring in some experience to help the younger players.

i`d love to see alonso back, those players who base their games on positioning and intelligence rather than athleticism and pace can play for years, there`s still 5 years at least left in xabi imo.

The Alonso talk is being driven by agents because of his contract negotiations.

Alonso won't be leaving Spain.

Most of us wish he'd just stop posting anything at all

But lets face it, forum wouldn't be the same if every time we got a bit hopeful we didn't have Benny lurking in the corner, p'issing in our beer.

I can stop posting if you wish Woof - thats just what every forum needs - moderators opening telling people to stop posting - especially when a forum us struggling already - the place would be even quieter then.

As for the Alonso rumour - you can take what I posted as fact because the club have made zero contact with anyone in connection with Alonso and have no intention of making any contact because he wishes to remain at Madrid. And that is from an extremely solid source within the club.
