We are being linked with Alex at chelsea

Liverpool have targeted a shock swoop for Chelsea centre-back Alex as manager Kenny Dalglish looks to solve his side's defensive problems.

It had been thought that full-back Jose Enrique, brought in from Newcastle last week in a £6m deal, was to be the Merseyside club's final transfer of the summer but Daglish is reportedly eager to recruit a centre-half before the window shuts.

It is claimed Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are prepared to find the money so the manager can bring in another defender, particularly after Daniel Agger picked up another injury and the side's shaky defensive problems in pre-season.

According to Fanatix.com, Liverpool have already held unofficial talks with Chelsea over a proposed £12m move for Alex and it is thought negotiations are going in the right direction.

The Reds had been linked with a move for Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross but the decided to drop their interest when the Potters refused to lower their £18m valuation.

They have now reportedly set their sights on Brazil international Alex, who was replaced in the first-team in January last season when David Luiz was signed from Benfica.

Liverpool have focussed their transfer policy this summer on recruiting younger players who will have long-term futures at the club but Dalglish is prepared to abandon that position to bolster his defence with a proven centre-back.

quite on Cahill rumors, Bolton value is too high for now, It seems the Dann stories are fabricated as we aren't even interested in him and Shawcross not a chance

Feck sake Alex now? Thought he was meant to be going Juve anyway. Just splash the money on Shawcross or Cahill.

Was something earlier about Comolli in Spain to look at that Diego Godin and a certain former manc.

Look, it has been a good window. We've got in some good players, I'm not unhappy, but I really feel like CB is one of (the most?) important areas we need to strengthen. Everything else we've done this window suggests we'll get the position sorted in the end, but the end of the window is looming...

Look, it has been a good window. We've got in some good players, I'm not unhappy, but I really feel like CB is one of (the most?) important areas we need to strengthen. Everything else we've done this window suggests we'll get the position sorted in the end, but the end of the window is looming...

I agree really hope we don't miss out on a defender because we spent all that money on Henderson.
He is young and may come good, but when you look at the likes of Larsson going on a free it does make you wonder.

Latest rumor and coming from Freddie Boswell (don't know who he is but he gets 70 percent of things right) that there is a chance of signing Cahill BUT there are other targets that are considered

Maybe that's why Comolli flew to Spain?

He struggles to get game time at Celtic so not quite sure what Kenny is playing at trying to get him to Anfield. He is an enigma who has some talent but is simply not good enough for LFC.
