Liverpool are reportedly lining up the £14.4million transfer of Real Madrid winger Denis Dmitriyevich Cheryshev as the star prepares to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Reds are keen to strengthen their squad for next season after a disappointing campaign and have targeted the Russian born winger, according to Marca.

Cheryshev is currently on loan to La Liga side Villarreal but Los Blancos are not keen to sell to their league rivals.

They are happy to let the Russian leave though and Brendan Rodgers could complete the transfer in the coming weeks.

Liverpool are hopeful of completing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Denis Cheryshev, according to reports.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he will be looking to make a number of marquee signings ahead of the new Premier League season, and is apparently poised to make the Russian winger his first of the summer.

Cheryshev is currently on loan at Villarreal, where he has scored seven goals in 32 appearances.

Despite being linked with a return to Real at the end of the season, Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb claims that the 24-year-old will instead be heading to Anfield.

It is believed that the Reds have offered £18million for Cheryshev's signature, although Real are insisting on a fee of £22m, but it is added that Rodgers is ready to meet the Spanish club's demands.

Tim Sherwood admits that he will not prevent Christian Benteke from joining Liverpool if the player is keen to leave Aston Villa.

Goal exclusively revealed on Friday that Villa will demand £30 million for their in-form striker, with Sherwood keen to deter bids for the Belgian, who has nine goals in his last eight games, with a hefty price tag.

The Villans boss accepts that keeping an unhappy player would be bad for morale but, with his own eye on bringing in new talent, knows that he will need funds to bolster his squad come the summer transfer window.

"If a player doesn't want to play for the club any more and the club he wants to go to meets the valuation, it's best to let them go. It will be just a market value - what's out there," he told reporters.

"I don't want to talk about selling Christian when I've got no intention of doing that so it would have to be a lot of money for someone to get him off us.

"We are looking for players ourselves so we know how much other clubs are looking at [as fees] for their players.

"He'll be too expensive for a great deal of people in the Premier League. We want to keep our best players - and he's certainly one of those."

Liverpool and Paris St Germain remain ahead of Manchester United in the race for Memphis Depay.

PSV sporting director Marcel Brands acknowledged last month that three clubs had made an approach for the Eredivisie top goalscorer who is available for £20million.

Brands said: "PSG and Liverpool are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Memphis. United have only informed us about their interest."

Talking to Fox Sports, he added that Bayern Munich had not firmed up interest in the 21-year-old: "The list of interested clubs has grown in recent weeks. But Bayern Munich are not among the teams that want to sign him.

"It's only logical that there is a lot of movement around Memphis. He is still a young player, but is already hugely efficient. He should be proud of that.

"There isn't usually a lot of movement in the transfer market at this stage of the season. It's an exception that so many clubs have already shown an interest in Memphis.

"That only illustrates that he's on the right track."

Liverpool have checked on Villarreal winger Denis Cheryshev.

The 24-year-old is on loan from Real Madrid but they are willing to sell for £15million or loan him out again.

Cheryshev was a target for Everton two years ago, and has scored seven goals this season.

He has been with the Spanish giants since 2002, and made his debut for Castilla in 2009.

He is yet to appear for the first team. Liverpool are considering alternatives to PSV Eindhoven's Memphis Depay as they look to improve attacking options.

A lot of the more popular "in the know's" on social media suggesting that Ings will be going to the scum

If correct, very bad move for him, he will get no game time there

I hope he does. Though their scouts seem better than ours so maybe not.

Not what LFC require. LFC needs good, solid proven quality, not injury prone players.

The Echo seems to think that we are in the driving seat re signing Depay.
Apparently his agent has said he wants to go somewhere where he will get plenty of football, he's not interested in going somewhere like Chelsea where good players end up on the bench all season.

It would be fantastic if we can sell Sterling for a lot of money and sign Depay as his replacement for 20 million. If we're not selling Sterling or any other of our wingers though, I don't see the need for Depay.

Well according to James Pearce of the Echo we are going to have around £35m in our war chest to spend in the summer, Depay will cost us somewhere in the region of £20m leaving us about £15m plus whatever we can raise from sales to further strengthen the squad.
The Echo reckons Sterling won't be one of those leaving though.

Depay, Sterling and Sturridge (when fit) will be a handful for any defence next year. We definitely need a world class striker with Sturridge being injured twice a week.
We NEED to replace Gerrard too, hopefully someone like Pjanic or Pastore will come in.

Despite what people say we have a lot of good players in the squad, it was only 12 months ago that we had people like Cafu calling us the best side in Europe to watch, hell, even United and Everton fans were praising us.
Obviously Suarez was a big part of that but he wasn't all of it, others like Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling and even Hendo played vital roles too.
This team just needs another catalyst, a couple of top players (who hit the ground running) and the sky could be the limit again.
