Liverpool poised to beat Louis van Gaal to Memphis Depay's signature

PSV Eindhoven forward played for Old Trafford boss Van Gaal in Holland's World Cup squad last summer and had looked bound for a Red Devils reunion

Liverpool look in pole position to snatch young Dutch star Memphis Depay from under the noses of arch-rivals Manchester United.

£20million-rated PSV Eindhoven attacker Depay, who has been described by Southampton's Dutch boss Ronald Koeman as “the biggest talent in the Netherlands” starred for Holland in the World Cup in Brazil last summer under now-United boss Louis van Gaal.

The under-fire United manager believes he can win the race for Depay’s signature. But Liverpool have done more homework than the Old Trafford giants.

Their scouts targeted the player more than two years ago and have been keeping a very close relationship with both him and his agent, Alex Kroes.

A delegation from Liverpool has visited PSV every month this season and spent a lot of time this week with Kroes, also watched the 21-year-old’s last game in his presence.

Tottenham have also asked to be informed when the bidding starts, but according to friends the player is keen to join Liverpool.

Liverpool are considering a move for Leeds United starlet Alex Mowatt.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly sent scouts to assess the England youth international.

And the Reds boss is keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old with a view to a move in the summer.

However, they will have to battle with rivals Everton as well as West Ham, as they too have extensively watched his progress at Elland Road.

But it will be difficult to secure his signature considering Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is currently banned from the Football League.

According to the Daily Mirror, Cellino could return at the end of the season and would demand at least £5million for Mowatt.

Liverpool are set to sign Memphis Depay ahead of Manchester United, according to reports.

Depay, who is set to leave Dutch club PSV this summer, has been widely tipped to rock up at United this summer.

But reports say a £20 million transfer to Liverpool is now on the cards, with Depay favouring a switch to Anfield over an Old Trafford move.

The news will come as a huge blow to United, with the winger seen as a huge star for the future.

We don't need a winger do we?  Unless we sell Sterling to Real for 70 million and replace him with this lad for 20? Yeah baby!

Liverpool are chasing Newcastle right-back Daryl Janmaat for a summer transfer, according to reports.

Janmaat, 25, is reportedly being lined up by Brendan Rodgers.

The Dutch defender, who joined Newcastle for £5 million from Feyenoord, is tied into a six-year contract at St James' Park but Liverpool are considering a summer bid.

Janmaat was linked with Louis van Gaal's Manchester United before joining Newcastle, so a transfer to Anfield would come as a surprise to Reds fans.

The fact someone's under contract these days means diddly-bo-squat. And that applies to Liverpool players as well, so you may as well pay Sterling 150k a week knowing in 2 years he may try and jump ship.

Liverpool want to seal the signing of Luciano Vietto 'as soon as possible' after making him their top transfer target.

Vietto, who currently plays for La Liga side Villarreal, has enjoyed an incredible campaign - scoring 20 goals in 39 matches.

Reds scouts have been following him closely, and now reports in Spain say Liverpool have made him a 'prority' signing for the summer.

It's also claimed a giant bid will go in shortly, with Liverpool confident of closing the deal as soon as possible.

Vietto is valued at about £12.2million.

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette after he admitted that a summer transfer could be on the cards.

The France international has bagged 23 league goals in 26 appearances this season, and has subsequently become one of the hottest properties on the current transfer market, with Spurs and Arsenal both thought to be keen.

And all the interest appears to have turned the 23-year-old's head, after he conceded in a press conference that he isn't sure about what will happen in the summer transfer window.

"For now, I'm at Lyon and contracted, but you never know what may happen this summer," he said.

"There will be a discussion between the President and myself - we will see if I continue at Lyon or not."

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has previously declared that Lacazette is both not for sale and better than Real Madrid's Gareth Bale, but the in-form striker is fully aware that things can change quickly in football.

"If the president wants me to leave for the good of the club or for other reasons, I will be forced to leave," he said.

"We know that in football, everyone can go every summer.

"This is not an open door, just reality."

Liverpool would most likely have to part with a sizeable sum to secure Lacazette's signature, but his current form suggests he would be worth the money.

Manchester United and Liverpool are on alert over Eduardo Salvio's ongoing contract talks at Benfica.

The Argentina winger, 24, is currently tied to the Lisbon club until 2017, but wary of interest in his services the Portuguese giants are keen to extend.

Salvio's agent Agustín Jimenez was in meetings with Benfica officials on Sunday and Monday in a bid to add an extra year to his deal, but Salvio and his representative are pushing to lower his current release clause of €60million (£43.1m) in return for penning a renewal.

Benfica have confirmed that Manchester United had scouts at the Estadio da Luz last weekend, while Liverpool and Zenit St. Petersburg - managed by Andre Vilas-Boas - are known to be interested.

Spurs have also been linked with the speedster.

LMFAO @ this, funniest thing i have read in ages....

Bookmaker Ladbrokes have sensationally made Liverpool the favourites to sign Paris Saint Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, following his rant about French football at the weekend.

The Metro report that the Swede is as likely to go to Anfield as anywhere else... but his odds are still a longshot at 8/1.

33-year-old Zlatan was sent off last week against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Liverpool are looking to close the signing of Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino, with a £18.6 million offer going in.

The Reds have been scouting Brazilian sensation Firmino consistently for the last 18 months - and have been strongly linked with a summer deal.

Arsenal and Manchester United also want the player, but reports say Liverpool are looking to seal the deal, with a £18.6million bid set to be made.

Liverpool are looking to add an extra creative talent next term - and Firmino is seen as the ideal signing.

Liverpool in for Bundesliga defender, wanted him 'for years', €7m seals deal

Perhaps Liverpool fans and certainly those who converse about the club on social media may need to brush up on their spelling of Kyriakos Papadopoulos if claims in Germany are correct. Respected magazine SportBild report in their edition this week that Schalke are very keen to take Papadopoulos back from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the current season. The Greek international was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen because he somewhat fell out with those in charge at Schalke but the manager there is now Roberto Di Matteo and the former Chelsea player and coach wants the defender back.

Bayer Leverkusen have no purchase option, it was a straightforward loan completed last summer. If the German club, who were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday via penalties to Atletico Madrid. want to keep Papadopoulos then they have to agree a transfer fee with Schalke - who won't want to sell.

Not only that, Bayer Leverkusen would have to compete with Liverpool who they reckon have wanted Papadopoulos 'for years' and are all set to move again. Schalke have something of a problem, Papadopoulos' contract ends in June 2016 and therefore he holds quite a few of the cards. SportBild say that Liverpool would only have to part with around €7m to buy the 23 year old because of that contract worry. It sounds like a really good deal and therefore we're all likely to hear more about it.

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a £5million deal for Schalke's on-loan defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The Greece international is currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, but is expected to return to Schalke this summer, when he is likely to be sold on.

Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with his services, but Bild says Liverpool are long-term admirers, and are monitoring his situation.

Papadopoulos' contract is running down and he would be available for the bargain price of £5million.

The Reds are expected to launch a move in the coming weeks, with a deal looking likely.

We looked certain to buy that Papadopolous a few years ago but if I remember correctly he did his knee ligaments just after he returned from another long term injury (similar to Lucas).

Liverpool target Theo Walcott as Raheem Sterling contract talks continue to stall

Liverpool are monitoring Theo Walcott’s latest contract wrangle with Arsenal as Raheem Sterling continues to stall on signing a new deal.
Walcott will have a year to run on his Arsenal contract in the summer and manager Arsène Wenger last week admitted that negotiations would not be easy.
The situation has been further complicated by the fact that Walcott, who wants a rise on his £100,000-a-week wages, has not started regularly for Arsenal since returning from injury.

Liverpool made an inquiry about Walcott before the England international signed his latest Arsenal contract in January 2013 and manager Brendan Rodgers remains a big admirer of the player.
Rodgers is being forced to consider his options in case Sterling does not sign a new deal after talks were shelved until the end of the season.

Like Sterling, Walcott can play on the wing or through the middle and has the same devastating pace as the 20-year-old.
Sterling’s Liverpool contract does not expire until 2017, but Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are watching developments. Chelsea and Manchester City are also likely to take a keen interest.

Liverpool’s interest in Walcott is not necessarily completely dependent on the future of Sterling, as doubts linger over whether Mario Balotelli will remain at Anfield past this season.
Walcott may well wait until the summer to assess his future after seeing how often he starts before the end of the season. The 26-year-old was visibly frustrated at not replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the FA Cup victory over Manchester United, but started the next game against West Ham and played 18 minutes as a substitute in Monaco.

Liverpool’s chances of landing Walcott may rest on whether they secure a top-four place, as it is unlikely the former Southampton youngster would want to give up Champions League football.
Fifth in the Premier League and three points behind Wenger’s men, Liverpool face Arsenal at the Emirates on April 4 after this weekend’s clash against Manchester United.

Walcott, who grew up a Liverpool fan, and Sterling have been named in England manager Roy Hodgson’s squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and friendly in Italy at the end of this month.
Sterling has been playing with a toe injury for Liverpool and is likely to be allowed to go back to his club after England’s game against Lithuania and miss the Italy trip unless it has fully cleared up.
