Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Postby JC_81 » Fri Jan 31, 2014 5:53 pm

Who knows how good this Konoplyanko really is and who knows what's really going on behind the scenes and what the stumbling blocks are.... but.... from the outside we look like amateurs here.

It's always common knowledge who our targets are in recent years (Assaidi was the only one who came out of the blue) and it allows clubs to nip in at the last minute.  The Salah deal is the prime example.  We need to be playing our cards a little closer to our chest in these situations for 2 reasons...

1) Other clubs can steal our targets.
2) If deals are close and then collapse (even if nobody else is interested) it disappoints the fans and makes the club look like mugs.

To me, Rodgers' body language didn't look good when quizzed about this deal today.  He made a remark about providing the club with a list of names, as if to say (but without saying it) that it isn't his fault if none of the deals are closed.  The signs are that this deal for Konoplyanka is faltering, but I may be wrong.  If it does fall through then Rodgers has every right to be annoyed.

FFS - As I type Sky now reporting we're looking at other targets including Chadli from Spurs???  WTF.

none of this is BR's fault at all. Like he said, he'll pass the names on and wait for the deals.

this is those at the top. cu.nts in suits that could've just cost us a CL place unless they have someone else lined up.

I've been positive until now, but if its true that the deal has fallen through over how we wanted to pay then I am a bit disappointed.
Seems a bit amateur offering to pay in a bunch of installments based on certain criteria's such as qualifying for CL etc.

I'd rather sign nobody than Chadli.... useless player.

As if Spurs are going to do business with a rival?? Why even embarrass ourselves for them to say no to a deal for a cr@p player?

Usual SSN nonsense. Seen the Konoplyanko move is losing legs so pick a name and try and make a story out of it

Rodgers - konoplyanka was just one of a 'number' of targets
Looks like he knew it wasn't going to happen because neither side would budge, the player had agreed terms and everything.
Looks like we are trying to sign chadli who we looked at last summer, every time I've seen him he looks very average.
Talk about getting the wind taken out of your sails.

To be fair they are more accurate than most.  They've come out fairly quickly and said LFC have rubbished the rumour,

Liverpool's deadline-day move for Yevhen Konoplyanka remains ongoing, according to Sky sources.

Liverpool officials have spent this week attempting to reach an agreement with the Ukraine winger's club Dnipro.

Negotiations over a £15m transfer have hit complications, and there is work still to be done ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Sources say Konoplyanka is Liverpool's one remaining target for this month, and manager Brendan Rodgers said early on Friday: "There's obviously an interest in the player.

"We'll see how it evolves. It is obviously a little complicated but the staff that are over there have done brilliant work in terms of giving us every chance to get a player."

Any medical must be completed in Ukraine as Konoplyanka, who scored against England at Wembley during World Cup qualifying, does not currently have a visa.

Tottenham have also been linked with the 24-year-old, but Tim Sherwood said on Friday any arrivals are "very, very unlikely".

Some journo's saying konoplyanka deal may be back on, apparently konoplyanka wasn't going to Kiev to get a visa for the Dnipro/ Spurs game but to come here to us!

actually talksports russian correspondent says the delay is with Dnipro's owner who is not convinced he wants to sell him. However he has no real choice as the player is out of contract next season. Last chance to make money on him, which the reporter us saying is £14M (not £20M as some have rumoured).

Liverpool are doing everything they can to seal the deal but the negotiations whilst positive are complicated. We've flown the medical staff to Russia to prevent any wasted time with the player in the air.

I suspect the deal will hinge on commercial interests for Dnipro (the owner is a russian billionaire - he doesn't need the money for the player but the club need to keep FFPR in mind). I suspect some arrangement of preseason friendly or joint club activities may seal the deal.

Going to Kiev to get a visa for spurs game always sounded highly unlikely, he wouldnt need to go there in person unless he wanted an urgent visa, clubs have people who deal with all of the visas for foreign games and he wouldnt be rushing there on deadline day for a match visa
