Reports in Spain suggest that AC Milan are prepared to pay £89million for Ronaldinho.

Spanish daily AS claims that Milan chief Silvio Berlusconi is prepared to pay the 125 million Euros required to trigger Ronaldinho's buy-out clause at Barcelona.

The reports claim that Milan will make a series of bids for the striker, but if they do not succeed then such is Berlusconi's desire to bring him to the San Siro, he will meet the enormous buy-out clause, which would comfortably break the world transfer record currently held by Real Madrid, who paid £45.6 million for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

AS goes on to claim that an agreement has already been reached between Ronaldinho and Milan, that will see him sign a five-year contract worth around £6m a year, plus exclusive image rights.

Ronaldinho has been in extensive contract negotiations with the Catalan giants to improve his current deal, which runs until 2010.

However, talks have stalled, leaving the prospect of the Brazilian joining the European champions open.

If I were Barca, I'd definitely sell him for that kind of cash.  A great player, no doubt, but they'd get by just fine without him and have a lot of dosh in their pocket to strengthen an already dynamite team.

I think they'd have to also take into account what kind of loss of earnings they'd be dealing with by letting Ronaldinho go. In the short term they'd be gaining 125m euro's but how much will they make in the next 3 years (2010 when his contract expires) from merchandising, tour games and all the other marketing add ons that Ronaldinho being a Barcelona player brings in. If this money is out weighed by the transfer fee then there can be no other decision than snap their hands off.

It may be a bit of a cynical view considering the quality that Ronaldinho possesses but it's a cynical business these days and besides they've got Henry, Messi and Eto'o, ain't that bad a fall back really!  :D

You have to take into account Barca's record without Ronnie in the team too, it's not too great :(

Just read that the bar codes were looking into trying to buy ronnie but were told they had to pay 60 million. I can't imagine he would ever went to go there.

Barca wouldn't let one of the best players on the world go for about £40m!!
