CELTIC and Rangers have been invited to take Liverpool's exciting young prospect Adam Hammill on a one-year loan.

After deciding not to follow up their initial interest in NAC Breda's Maceo Rigters with a firm offer - a fact confirmed all along by the Dutch club - and watching the striker join Blackburn for an undisclosed fee, Celtic are pushing on with the other players under consideration.

They are about to collect 1.25million for the sale of Craig Beattie to West Brom, with the potential to collect another 500,000 depending on the striker's success at the Hawthorns. And Norwich are also today expected to announce they have paid 750,000 to sign back-up keeper David Marshall.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is not expected to let this income gather dust, and his scouts have already compiled a list of potential signings.

Reports from France claim Celtic still have a 3m offer on the table for Sochaux's Senegalese midfielder Guiranne N'Daw.

And Alexander Frei's name has again been linked with the SPL champions.

But, Celtic's enquiries about the Swiss international striker were met with a firm Nein' by Borussia Dortmund as soon as they won their battle to beat the drop from the Bundesliga.

Sources at the German club claimed even a bid of 25m would not prize him away.

The Parkhead club have had no indication in the interim that this situation has, or is about to, change.

Now Hammill's agent, Tamas Byrne, wants his man to be placed on Celtic's wanted list as he expects Liverpool to put the 19-year-old attacking midfielder out on loan for another year.

Hammill caught the eye when he used a short-term move to Dunfermline to grab a starring role in the SPL.

He signed off in the Scottish Cup final when, not for the first time, he caused Celtic problems.

And, with Pars now relegated, Byrne is calling on Celtic or Rangers to give the teenager an even bigger stage.

He said: "If either of the Old Firm, or other SPL clubs, are interested, we would look at it very positively."

Behind the scenes, Celtic have strengthened their coaching staff by appointing Stevie Woods as a goalkeeping coach to work under Jim Blyth.

And Tony Taylor has been named as coach with overall responsibility for the 12-16 age group.
