I know we only see the best of on youtube but quite frankly the clips are like going from black and white to colour compared to the wing play we have seen from Pennant/Kewell/Gonzales.

I do not know the players age but anything in the region of £15m would seem a fair price in the current market dependant on contracts etc...

To see moments of magical wingplay at Liverpool would be a real treat given that we have been starved of sexy football for many a season now.

Individual flair of that calibre brings home exactly what we have missed out on and brining that kind of play back would be terrific news.

Ricardo Quaresma the Portuguese playmaker has today been linked with a move to Liverpool in both Spanish and Portuguese newspapers today. O Jogo from Portugal reported that Liverpool are reportedly lining up a bid of approx 22 million Euros in an attempt to snare the midfielder from Porto. However, Spanish sources are today indicating that Atletico Madrid could also be looking at the player with a view to making a bid for his services next season.

Liverpool have already invested heavily in their front line this summer with the arrival of Torres from Atletico Madrid, the same club they could face competition from for the signature of Quaresma, and could see the former Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon left winger as the ideal player to provide service to their new look front line.

Quaresma can play on both wings as well as in the midfield and has been widely seen as the best player in the league this season excelling for Porto as they won a hard fought contest for the title in Portugal. Quaresma initially arrived at Porto as a failure having failed to settle following a big money move to Barcelona from his previous club in Portugal, Sporting Lisbon. However, his time in Catalunya was marred by injuries and poor form and he left after just one season, after falling out with Frank Rijkaard, as part of the deal that took Deco from Porto to Barcelona.

He quickly found his feet again in Portugal and has since notched up just under 100 appearances for the club scoring 20 goals in the process many of them spectacular efforts from long range. Quaresma at times can be accused of over elaborating and his style in many respects is similar to that of Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he played in 2003/03 at Sporting Lisbon. However, then coach Laszlo Boloni seldom played the pair together fearing they would be incompatible. He is an excellent dribbler of the ball and also can deliver a mean cross, his ability with both feet means that beating defender is never a problem.

One blight on his career, the time at Barcelona aside, is his inability to settle in the national team. Last season he was not selected for the World Cup side instead being asked to captain an U-21 side that flopped spectacularly at the European tournament held on his home soil. Quaresma like many of his team mates failed to deliver in the tournament and thus far in 3 seasons has only 10 caps at full international level and one goal to his name despite his obvious talent. There is also some debate as to the best position of Quaresma – this season he has played on the left hand side of a three man attack with no defensive shackles. He can also play in the hole behind attack although sometimes drifts out of games failing to influence them sufficiently.

Quaresma’s arrival at Liverpool would be a huge step forward for Benitez who has struggled to find any sort of consistency from his players on the wing. Boudewijn Zenden has been released this summer and Mark Gonzalez has departed for Real Betis as well. Liverpool, who were interested in Quaresma’s compatriot Simao (who interestingly has also been linked in some English sources with a move to Atletico Madrid today), would see the young Porto player as the sort of player who could deliver the service that the likes of Torres and Kuijt would thrive upon.

Atletico Madrid have also registered their interest in the player as they look to rebuild for next season. Having already brought in Diego Forlan from Villarreal the Madrid based team have looked to Quaresma as a player who may well shine in La Liga. Were he to join Atletico he would be joining a veritable enclave of Portuguese players with Maniche, Costinha and Ze Castro already under contract at the club. With the departure of Luciano Galleti to Olympiakos earlier this season there would be space for such a creative wide player in the team.

The Spanish side have also been linked with Juan Roman Riquelme who is currently on duty for Argentina in the Copa America and under contract to Villarreal. However, Riquelme has fallen out with his club side and has spent the last months exiled to Argentina on loan to his former club Boca Juniors. This loan spell has been an unqualified success as he has become top scorer in the Copa Libertadores helping Boca to bring the cup back to Argentina after two seasons in Brazilian hands as well as helping the side to find it’s feet in the league. If the move for Riquelme falls through then Quaresma could be a target for the Spanish side. Atletico president declared to Spanish sports paper Marca today that ‘he (quaresma) is the sort of player that Atletico would be interested in and that he would always be a good player for the team’

If true I don't think it will be accepted due to Porto turning down £14.6million from athletico and telling them they want 25 mil euro's.

Please, please let's sign up this lad quickly. We desperately need some skills on the flanks to provide our strikers and to chip in with some goals as well, and Quaresma fits this bill better than most players out there. I just hope Chelsea don't suddenly rekindle their interest in him, as they have a habit of doing, whenever we are on the trails of someone (ie Alves, Malouda and so forth). I just seem to remember the special moaner talking in really positive terms about Quaresma on more than one occasion. Oh, and I really do hope he prefers us over Atletico to... just follow the lead of Torres son, and come join the greatest club in the world :blues:

He is a very good player, has the pace and skill to be a perfect winger for us, coupled with his ability to drift and play on either flank and he can score goals from there as well. I would say he should be a definate purchase but obviously if they want stupid money for him then forget it.

Even tho he looks amazing on youtube and the likes, theres always the possibility he may be to light wieght for the premiership or that his supposed firery personality may get in the way.

Cristiano Ronaldo came to england with his pace and skill and was a sucess even before last seasons goal scoring antics, but fell over one to many times :p. So there is no reason why Quresma cant make the change as well.

Latest news say they want £20mill for him which is a little to much, I would say 15 - 16 mill would be the maximum price for him, but thats only my opinion.

Only time will tell.

I recon this lads on his way this week, got Torres( for a decent fee ), sold dead wood ( and made the money back ), now its time for another big sighing. Bet Rafa gets him for no more than 15.5 , come on then how much will the gaffa pay?
