10M is too much? Maybe another club will pay it and he'll be worth 50m and winning awards left, right and centre in 6 years time. I think Southampton would settle for 5-6m anyway.

He has bags of potentia. His goal against Ipswich was genius a few eeks ago if anyone saw it. He sound like hes love to play for us but Rafa may just have to fork out a few bob for him. I just hope Rafa lieks the look of him. What a massive blow for our rivals that would be wouldnt it.

A.B. wrote:10 million for a 16 year old is too much, no matter how much of a prospect they may be. The only club that are stupid enough to pay that amount of money are Chelsea.

I can see us signing Wallcott rather than Chelsea, because with us he will have much more of a chance of breaking into the team. The fact that Wright-Phillips, a 20 million pound signing, is sitting on the bench in most games says it all.

Thats why Carson joined us and not Chelsea as well

Its a risk you have to take im afraid. In fact it would be doing us a favour if we bought him now as oppose to in 1 years time where his tag may have increased or even doubled as did Wayne Ronney. We are potential suitors for him and being European Champions wont have hurt too much either. Unless you fork out now for him the next team to want him will have to spend around £20M for hi and im not exaggerating. If Man Utd paid £27M for a 17 year old i dont think 10M is wasted money. Ok theres a chance he could flop but theres a greater chance he wont. Unless youve seen him in action and hif goals you wouldnt understand anyway.

Report on Koptalk tonight... No sources or quotes but interesting none the less...

-----------

We are pleased to report that Southampton ace Theo Walcott could sign for Liverpool this month because of a loophole which can be exploited.

This explains why Liverpool have only tabled a £3million offer for the player which suggests someone in the Walcott camp is keeping us in the loop. That offer though was rejected by Southampton but Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has left it on the table.

Walcott can leave Southampton before his 17th birthday in March and a tribunal would then set the fee which could be as low as £2.5million.

Liverpool fan Walcott (16) is the Premier League's hottest talent at the moment with all the big guns,  Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs, all trying to compete with us for his signature.

Saints boss George Burley is now resigned to the fact that the player could be on the move during the current transfer window.

I tend to agree with you GaryMac, I think the sooner we put in a bid, the better.  If you consider the money we have wasted in recent times on Heskey, Cisse (I know the jury is still out on that one), Diouf, Diao, etc, is 10 million really such a gamble? and is it really that expensive?.  I personally think southampton would probably settle for around 8 or 9 million with other clauses in about silverware and england appearances, etc.  If the lad is a red anyway, then we have a real advantage which we must capitalise upon.

Rafa would never pay ten million for the lad, no way. That said I would like to see him come to us, he is a propect for sure. The Championship is a tough competitive division and he is shining out as a top player there, with some coaching, growth and experience he could be a real star. I think the real issues are about his contract. He is only 16 and at 17 can walk away with the fee agreed by tribunal and £2.5 million is likely for an unproven player of his age, The Saints want more than this of course so will do everythig to get him to a sign a professional contract and he might just show some loyalty and sign there. Depending how he gets on then of course he could go anywhere in a couple of years. It is all up to him.
Chelsea have apparently stated that they'll top ANY offer tabled for Walcott but in my opinion he'd be a fool to go there, yeah the money might be good but at Liverpool or Arsenal he'd be valued and play.

Id pay 10 million without a doubt, this boy is an investment if anything, he is going to be a star, end of, id rather see us pay 10 million for one of the brightest talents in the english game than for Simao. If your good enough your old enough, age doesnt matter, this lad is going to be world class and he will be one of are most exciting signings ever.

You dont know wha Rafa would do or dont do. If Rafa has seen him play then he knows how intelligent this kid is and a player like that with so much awareness would fit right in with his system. The fee could even be up to 5 or 6 mil but ot 10. The thing is Theo can walk away for nothing which is why pert Lowe wantsto get what he can for him now. All Theo hastodo is say i only want to play for Liverpool, otherwise ill go for free. Thefore hie will be forced to accept our bid anyway. But the fact that we have alreday ,ade a bid shows that Rafa has noticed him and im sure will react accordingly. I hope he really does push for this signing though. I thought Waybe Rooney was the last of those extra special talented players we have but evidently not.

If we make sure the boy makes his mind up and tell the S'hampton board then they will have no choice but to accept our bit but no way are they in any position to raise it to that price because he could walk away for nothing. Could you imagine how pisses off the Everton board would have been if Wayne Rooney had walked away for nothing?
