Best eleven away from the top 4? - Who has played well this season.

The Premiership - General Discussion

Who has looked good even when there team hasn't done so well? With Liverpool strongly linked with Bentley & Barry I got to wondering who else might be a good buy & what eleven could you make from the other teams, the ones who might not get champions league games.

Hart (Man City)

Hutton (Spurs)
Dunne (Man City)
Laursen (Villa)
Wheater (Boro)

Barry (Villa)
Reo-Coker (Villa)
Petrov (Man City)
Kranckiar (Pompey)

Berbatov (Spurs)
Zarate (Birmingham City)

Hart (Man City) - after his gaffe against Fulham I'd say no, might as well simply keep Carson

Hutton (Spurs) - not much chance we'd sign him after spudz fought hard to get him and paid over the odds

Dunne (Man City) - too old, ex-bitter and while a good player, we have four CBs as good/better

Laursen (Villa) - not too convinced, is he really the best CB you could come up with?

Wheater (Boro) - maybe, could cost a packet though

Barry (Villa) - the price tag is the off-putter for a type of player we don't really need.

Reo-Coker (Villa) - got a big thing for villa players? Not convinced he's a better choice than Lucas and others we've got and he'd also be costly

Petrov (Man City) - good player, would cost a bomb. Not sure he's been consistent during the season, ironically my first thought of an alternative is a young villa players who would cost a bomb

Kranckiar (Pompey) - decent player, not too old but price might be an issue.

Berbatov (Spurs) - definitely want him, get the feeling he would cost a lot (£20m+)

Zarate (Birmingham City) - he made quite an impact, but to pay the £18m reported for a player who's barely been here five minutes is a huge gamble. Money better spent on players with more time in the Premiership. I might pay up to £10m for him, but not what Al wotsit are asking

It's an interesting idea though is a team from the non "top four" teams. I'll have a go although it has to be said I've seen about a tenth as much football as i would normally have watched in years gone by. These are not blokes I'm saying we should sign, merely my "outside the top four' best team.

GK-David James. He's not far off being the best in the league, and probably is the best in the league if you can forgive and forget the gaffes, which as he's got older come along about once every three games. It's a bit like playing Russian roulette, you just hope that when the bullet is actually lined up, the gun ain't pointing at your head. Gaffes when 3-0 up are just fine, but as Dudek and Reina have discovered, gaffes at Old Trafford can erase the memory of many good performances.

Right back-Alan Hutton. I haven't seen a lot of him but like what I have. Looks very solid to me and can play a bit too. A good buy for the money IMHO.

Left back-Nicky Shorey. No fuss and almost Finnan like in his efficiency, I fancy this fella will move onto bigger and better things before too long. Good solid player.

Centre half-Joseph Yobo. Good solid defender who doesn't get embarrassed often. Not really a footballing centre half but a good player nontheless.

Centre Half-Ryan Nelson. Another good defender who ain't afraid of "zedding it" if under pressure.

Left mid-Ashley Young. Better than Bentley IMHo and a smashing footballer alround with a bit of devil in him. A good buy at the 9 million quid O'Neil shelled out on him.

Central mid- Tom Huddlestone. I like this lad, he can pass it, has a shot and can put his foot in. Sometimes needs a rocket up his erse and is fgetting it now, but will make a really good player IMHO.

Central mid-Gareth Barry. Good player, debateable as to whether he would improve us a central midfielder, but would massively improve us if he played left side, either as full back or midfielder.

Right mid-Arteta. Another excellent player, and one who would instantly improve our team were we to have him.

Up top-Keane and Berbatov. Good players, good pairing. If Berbatov broke a fingernail or messed up his hair and lost interest, I'd get him off and get my sub on, Tim Cahill.

Anyhow, that's my "outside the top four" team. No doubt I've forgotten someone really obvious, but there it is anyway.

Not sure on what the thread starter means, is it just a premiership 11 or are you wanting players that we think we could/should go for ?

If its a premiership 11 excluding the top 4 based on this seasons performances i will have a stab.

James
Johnson (portsmouth)
Lescott
Laursen
Wheater/Dunne - hard to seperate the two.
Young (Villa)
Muntari
Petrov
Elano
Santa Cruz
Yakubu

i think this is just a game to look at who are outstanding performers in the other teams, not players we should actually go for.

i haven't seen as much footie as usual this season either, but the keeper and striker that stand out for me are gordon from sunderland and keane from spurs.

1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

my XI more or less looks like everybody elses but I am keen on Sebastian Larsson of Birmingham city, seen him score some fine goals, wouldn't mind him on the bench. Along with Howard, McBride, Dempsey, and  Convey   :D
