Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Andy may be getting his act together but I don't think he will fit well into B.R. tiki taka football where there's no lofting of high balls in the air for Andy who is basically an aerial man. Thus I don't expect him to be here for long, maybe will be sold next January. I'm sure he'll still be here for at least another season had Kenny been given one more season.

What do you mean by " basically an aerial man"?

Having Andy in the squad is of grave importance, if our widemen can whip balls into the box and Andy can get on the end of them, that can be the difference in match which sees us go from 0 to 1 point or 1 point to 3 points.

I hope he's picked against Ukraine and scores a hattrick, the more goals Andy scores, the more comfortable he'll be, the more confidence that will radiate from him.

And therein lies the  problem. In order for Andy to be effective for us, we need an excellent crosser and we need to play in a certain way.

Constantly saying the same thing over and over again doesn't make it right.

I would say that NOT having an big strong player that is good in the air is one dimensional. The more options the better.

The truth is, having a one dimensional striker is one dimensional. Look at Torres, his best attributes are pace and finishing yet, he can also head the ball in. Look at Owen his best attributes are positioning, pace and finishing, not one dimensional, he can score with right left and with his head. Look at fowler, he can score from anywhere, he doesn't need acres of space, he doesn't need minutes to pull the trigger, he doesn't need a pin point accurate cross. Andy is one dimensional PERIOD. And so were Crouch and Heskey. They don't meet the mark of a main striker that we so desperately need.

Whatever the case is, we'll see next season, if Carroll scores 12 goals in the league or 16 goals in all competitions, I'll eat my humble pie. And that's already lowering my standards. A main striker for Liverpool should be scoring at least 15 goals in the league and 20 in all competitions.

Crouch wasn't one dimensional and neither was Heskey when we first bought him.

Carroll can score in the air and also on the ground , he can score from crosses and from cut backs or passes. He can get the ball into his feet , he can hold it up or turn. He does lack pace.

There seems to be more than one dimension right there.

Goal against Everton - half volley after a cut back

Goal against Chelsea - ball at feet , a couple of sharp turns and smash

Goal against Sweden - great cross and world class header

Seems those three example dismiss your one dimensional theory

Let's just wait and see how many goals he'll score next season shall we ? The way some of you make him out to be, it's almost as if he's Alan Shearer

No one is saying that - you are calling him one dimensional yet I have told you instances that disprove that.

What is the singular dimension from Carroll ?

How many goals scored in the league , would be acceptable by your standards, for Andy Carroll ?
