Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

We desperately need a quality striker, our front men are still lacking the killer punch to finish off the opponents. Suarez is creative with great ball control skills but his finishing can be poor. Kuyt and Bellamy have been used like Jack of all trades and are not  world class centre forwards. IMO, the A.C. purchase was a huge blunder and now we're paying the price for it (pun unintended). But I still hope he can  come out good one day whenever that day is.

We need ALL our players, including Lucas, Downing, Henderson, Johnson etc to perform at the top of their game to achieve anything this season

He looked fantastic... Wish we could have seen him from the start to be honest. He literally won everything.  unlucky not to score, and unlucky none of his mates were around on the multiple occasions he laid the ball off in the box like he's supposed to.

We ripped off ajax off for suarez, we sold a dud to cheatski for 50 million. But the biggest scam of the century has to pay 35 MILLION for a absolute waste of space.  Anybody want to offer a defence???

that's why we paid 35 million for the lad.

Man City's defence didn't know what to do with him and he should have got a goal. HE also should have come on with 30 mins to go, instead of getting a small cameo role

Mate were you just watching the end of that game? He had less then 10 minutes, was only stopped by a brilliant save and absolutely ripped a whole in the supposed best defense in the league.  They couldn't do a thing about it.  He should have played from the start over Hendo.

KK is slowly moulding AC into a monster of a player. What a cameo by AC.

Andy Carroll is work in progress, and he seems to be learning and coming on nicely. Brilliant today in the short 10 mins he got. Should have got longer. Well played big man!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Ill add to the voices calling for Kenny to use him for more than 10mins especially when we're well in control of the game and just cant get the ball in the back of the net. He did well today but I still think he should be no more than a bench player for now. He gives us options and sometimes you need this sort of player coming off the bench to make an impact rather than starting the game and affecting the fluidity of the play.

Haircut and a little bit of streamlining, maybe some extra ball control work and he will be a monster in the drogba mould.

Decent cameo this afternoon and he was unlucky not to win us the game. I've doubted him and to some extent still do, but the is one hell of a player in there somewhere.

Kenny had a dilemma though. While I appreciate the voices of concern re bringing Carroll on for a lot longer than he got, the dilemma was simple.

Take a man off in midfield where we had them almost nullified and risk loosing the lions share of control and possibly the points.

Or, hope we could nick it with what we had out there.

At the time, I was screaming for Carroll to come on in place of Kuyt who I thought had a poor game. Added to the fact that him and Henderson were often at times taking up the same position anyway.

But in hindsight, I think Kenny did the right thing perhaps, he didn't take the gamble earlier on as we had hold of the midfield, something that wasn't guaranteed had Carroll come on for one of our midfielders.

If anything, Henderson should have pushed on more and given Suarez some proper support like Gerrard did for Torres. Suarez was too isolated again and I thought Henderson playing primarily through the middle could have helped Suarez out a little more, knowing Adam and Lucas were behind him.

Playing Suarez in a lone role, doesn't get the best out of him like it did Torres, and it's the second game in a row where I felt sorry for him. But his work rate none the less still helped the team out considerably. This formation Kenny's played in the last two games is two pragmatic for Suarez' style, hopefully we'll see the little Uruguayan terrorising Fulham's back four next week.

A.C. penalty was saved but overall he played a good game and was unlucky not to score at the last minute of the City game.

IMO, the lad has the talent BUT right now, he doesn't look like he's ready for the Liverpool way yet. He will need time to adapt and be gradually given more and more playing time to see if he can fit in. Hopefully he can come out a success. This is the price Liverpool are paying for making a panic buy in January.

And Liverpool needs to buy a quality striker in the January window(hopefully they can get one) for the goals to come in. We cannot solely depend on Suarez because he is inconsistent in his finishing.

Carroll looks lost and confused at times to me. Its like hes not ready to take on the mantle of £35 million lead striker at LFC.
He was like a bull in a china shop, or a big kid running round barging into people last night. His penalty was woeful, made even worse when there were others more capable who didnt take it off him. His demeanour is one of someone who does not grasp, or doesnt give a sh'it about the enormous expectations on his shoulders.
Saying that I thought he had some good spells in the match. He forced the penalty and gave their defence a torrid time and ran himself into the ground. He is definitely not the finished article (yes I know £35 mill blah blah) but once it all clicks he could be awesome.
