Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

I thought he played well Yesterday. He was lively and was very involved in a lot of the attacking play, he was excellent in defending the aerial bombardment from Stokes corners and free kicks as well, im sure he won more headers than our centre backs in that aspect. He needs to improve his distribution which can be very sloppy at times, hes still not quite on Suarez's wavelength but there were deffo signs of improvement last night.

He did well overall but he really needs to score a goal sometime soon to maintain his spot in the starting 11. For me, his touch is still awful but his work rate and defensive contribution are very refreshing for a player his size. You can tell how badly he wants to impress and I still feel the manager hasnt quite gotten the balance right around him to provide him with the sort of service he thrives for. Id like to see how him, Downing, Gerrard and Bellamy in one side would perform together.

As long as Suarez keeps performing the way he has and scoring, we probably wont see Carroll spearheading our attacks, yet.

Good for him to score but it isn't pretty. He needs to make more runs. Both him a Suarez was guilty of lots of selfish displays today.

He's consistently gotten better in every game he started for quite a while now.  Scored against WBA and he needs to start against Swansea.  He deserves it.

Another hardworking display from Carroll here and another league goal. Ill take that every game but I just cant see where the talk of him and Suarez working well together comes from (besides the goal obviously). Hes improving and scoring though so you cant ask more of the guy. Hopefully in time we'll be able to work better balls into the areas without him having to come back to hold up the ball and miss out on the dangerous cross. I understand that Suarez will almost always be playing on the shoulder of the last defender but we really need to start getting the other attacking options playing something close to their natural game to get the best out of them.

The working well together means working hard at the top end of the pitch, not necessarily in goal scoring positions. A few times Carroll and Suarez were out wide holding the ball while the midfield got into position. Although we want to see them in the box, it is good to see the teamwork there.

Exactly. For the first time yesterday there was a ray of hope that the two of them started to link up. It's still very early and to be honest I think Suarez at times yesterday could have linked up a bit more with Andy than he did. There were a couple of time when Suarez went the selfish route and perhaps the better option was trying to play Andy in. It's no big deal though, as on the whole there was promise from the two. Suarez was played in by a flick on from Andy - simple yes, but at least the Uruguayan is starting to read his team mate and anticipate this more. I still think Andy is a bit static but then again I suppose Mr Motivator would like kind of static next to Suarez who's movement, vision and passing at times is simply phenomenal.

It's definitely a 'work in progress' with these two as a partnership and Andy I think still hasn't found his feet in the team yet, where as Suarez has. Once Andy's sorted this out and is much more confident within himself their partnership could grow much better. For me, the pair of them need to start against Swansea next week.

he's not playing to his best, yet, but he's getting goals which is good enough for me.

Perhaps part of the problem with Carroll is he is not the type of player we are used to having here really. The lad will never move that well or play slick fast football but he offers power and heading ability and brings something new to the table. He just bundles his way through teams to be honest and whacks it at goal. He has to improve on his own attributes and is showing signs but I doubt we will ever see him on his toes and moving like a champ up top and thats something we may just have to accept and get used to seeing.

Have to say another poor display from the big man v West Brom, but signs of improvement.  His touch was poor, even for the goal, but at least he was more involved than recent weeks.  He looked more confident second half after the goal.

Still looked more of a goal threat than Torres did for Chelsea this weekend.
