Andy Carroll signs for West Ham

The Premiership - General Discussion

Pretty clear that Kenny has been tough on Carroll past couple of weeks by freezing him out of the United game then putting him on the bus to Ibrox with the ressies midweek. Actions speak louder than words on that score so its up to Carroll now if he gets his chance this afternoon because he needs to be doing better and the handling of him recently suggests the club think so too.

Cracks me up everytime people bring the 35m as an arguement for anything! it's not if Carrol offered himself for this price tag ,that was the club decision to pay this ridicules amount so save your criticism for our managment. Andy doesn't have to carry the burden of his price just because Kenny and others thought we should pay that amount.

I would also like to remind everyone that we should set our expectation to Carrol abilitities strangth and weakness ,he is a very good box striker ,very good on the Air ,with a very strong kicking precision. However he is not able to create for himself ,he isn't Torres and Suarez which just need the ball and then the show begins ,he Needs Support! And thus far his supporting team ,mainly Downing ,Hendo and Adam failed in delivering quality balls to the box in a consistent and steady manner. Andy can't live without balls being thrown his way from the sides ,so cut him some slack ,their is a shared responsibility why he doesn't perform yet.

Then you're delusional. Asking for a goal every game is beyond ridiculous from anybody... Even Messi doesn't score that often, and if Messi was for sale I'm sure there's a few clubs willing to pay 10 times what we paid for Carroll for his services.

Well definitely not a hat-trick every game and maybe not even a goal every game, but for that money, I expect the player to score at least 15-20 goals per season. I'm not saying that there's no chance he'll come good in the future, but for now it doesn't look that way and let's be honest, at the moment he sucks! Anyway, I think Thommo's perm wasn't serious and was trying to be sarcastic :).

I wasnt "trying" to be sarcastic
:;):
It is becoming a joke that people skirt round his price tag saying theyre not bothered and then bringing it up at every opportunity to bolster critcism from outside LFC.
You say "at the moment he sucks!" I disagree. I accept he hasnt hit form yet but he hasnt been as bad as some would want him to be. He is a young man with high expectations on him who is trying to find his feet in one of the, if not THE biggest club in football. Lucas has performed far worse than Carrolll this season so far for me, yet some say he is great.
Strange...

I don't think anyone has really blamed Andy for his price. I myself have said I believed that Kenny and co overestimated Andy's talents and overpaid fir him. The criticism was really more on Kenny than Andy.

But there is a chance for Andy to show his worth tonight against Norwich. If he doesn't play against this kind of opponents though, then it's not looking good for him.

Thought he did well with the too short amount of time he got against Norwich.  Probably should have scored with the header.  Helped create some good things.  Would have liked to see him on earlier with the amount of corners we had today.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Andy had a great opportunity to win over some of the fans against Norwich. Sadly the fairy tale finish didn't happen & we go back to the £35 mil price tag :D

I still don't understand why after scoring against the bluenoses he hasn't started since.

It does worry me the money we paid for him, and others too, we aren't getting a lot in return.

If you were John Henry though and looked at how much we paid for him would you not be asking why he isn't in the team?

I think I know the answer to that. It's because KD is beginning to suspect A.C. doesn't fit into the Lvp way of playing.

Iain St John said the same on Radio City on the post match football debate.

i thought he was really good last night in terms of his overall team play and holding the ball up, especially in the first half. this notion that he hasn't got a good touch is an absolute myth. it's the fault of other players in the team if we play a more direct style when he's on the pitch

the thing is he now needs to build on it with a run of games. if he's back on the bench on saturday then we're essentially back to square one. west brom and swansea are two games whereby it's an ideal opportunity for him to bag a few goals.
