Always an excuse for Owen. :glare: The reason he scored so many goals was because of Heskeys unselfishness. Both good players but they were a team like Dalglish and rush. One plays off the other.Just cos Rush scored more-doesnt mean he was better.

Owen was not selfish when compared with the greediest of them all, VanHorseface. Owen changed his games somewhat in his latter matches with Pool. Apparently he was working harder on his assist following his inability to score. Henry's assist record must have shown him that being top striker doesn't mean having to have the last touch of the ball always.

If his contract has less than 6 months to run come January, he can freely talk and make a pre-contract with another club to continue AFTER his contract expires. There will not be any transfer fees involved. That means, he can only join us on a Bosman after his present contract expires and can start talking to us without his club being eligible to claim for any transfers 6 months from his contracts' expiry.

Rafa wanted to bring Mista before the start of season. He might not be the most flashy of strikers but he will get his quota of goals playing as a lone front man. So unless Cisse or Baros can do the job, and consistently so, I am sure Rafa will raid his old club for a player or two.

Some of you are speaking right out of your @ss...eg,
- why buy Mista coz he won the double last season? ... as top scorer of the Spanish Champion and chief striker of UEFA Cup winner is not good enough reason for you?
- Mista had one good season and everybody wants to buy him? ... go ask JM why he bought Drogba after one good season.
- His attitute stinks? ... so I presume you either coached or played alongside him to know his attitute?
- there are many more better strikers for us to buy ... how many are available for free or do you think we should spend another 15~20M for another front man?
- Mista is greedy ... so is 3/4 of all Premiership players, given a chance...
- lastly, a Classic ... Heskey our best striker...nuff said!

TGO, I think to suggest Heskey didn't do the buisness due to racist treatment is nonsense. He was at times a good player for Liverpool, he had some great games, I don't think many would deny that. The issue was the other games, the ones when he appeared not up for it. the ones where the slightest contact would see him writhing around, where his first touch was awful, his contribution non-existent. His finishing verged from the excellent to the awful but unfortunately, he missed a whole lot more than he scored. He seems like a lovely fella, his gesture to Leicester City revealed an honourable and caring man but ultimately he came up a little short on ability IMO, pure and simple. Probably Birmingham is about right for him. No disrespect to them but they don't realistically aspire to the hieghts that Liverpool do. Thats not to say he won't have a blinder when they play us, he probably will. On that day, their fans will probably say "fer f's sake, just think if he played like that every week. What a player he'd be", just like we used to. A result of racism? No a result of ability and application.
On the question of Owen, saying he caused a builder to commit suicide is a one-eyed representation of the facts as we know them and without wanting to get into a full on debate on the subject, is a bit lacking in taste. I'm no lover of the little ponce purely on a football/contract/loyalty level, but would leave my criticism there.
As far as Mista is concerned, on a free he would look like a good aquisition. Poaching takes skill and intelligence, qualities Rafa holds in high regard and Mista posesses both. A four year deal at 3.2 mill equals about 16 grand a week, and while thats a fortune to all of us, less than he would realistically expect to earn at a bigger club so its no surprise that he's keen to leave. As to the point about ranieri not playing him, well you wouldn't would you? There would seem little point in basing your attacking options on a player who is leaving in a couple of months and who would appear less than comitted to the cause. Makes perfect sense to me.

listen, just becoz there is a strike partnership where one scores and the other doesnt, it also doesnt necessarily mean one was the unselfish one, etc. it could actually mean, you know, that one was sh*te, and one was good.

are you gonna say this about every partnership where one is good and scoring, and the other isnt.

its plain as day, heskey wasnt good enough. we would have notced if he was this dalglish type player you're goin on about.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

Every team vying for both Domestics and European honours must have at least 4 top class strikers. Sinama has yet to see action this season and I don't think he fits the bill.

I think Liverpool should go ahead and get Mista if we can afford him. As his former boss, Benitez will be able to throw a rein on him. Otherwise, he should at least be grateful for a chance to further his career.

Porto won euro glory last year and they didnt have 4 top class strikers. An excellent side scores for all corners of the park from many players. the old LFC side in the 70s and 80s did that and won many times.i am old enough to appreciate watching them at that time. Remember its a team effort not just a striker effort!

Also we should not sign anyone who would be grateful to further their career as pointed out bt live4pool. We dont want grateful, we want GOOD

The great one, u have been speakin some of the most sh!t i have ever seen on this forum, to say heskey will be missed more than owen is pathetic, to say he was unselfish is nonsense and to say he didnt play well half the time cos of racial abuse is utter b0ll0cks, Heskey hasnt played well consistantly for 2 years and its not becos he was racially abused, its becos hes not good enough.
Chopper:Look, you're not still angry at me about the leg, are you?
Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?
