Stop it this isn't the Rafa thread!  :D

I can see exactly what is going to happen. Torres will be dead tired come next season and will spend spells out injured again as he has done this year and meanwhile we will be hinging our hopes on the Voronin ala Serbia! If he turns out to be :censored: what the fk are we gonna do? NGog?   :D  Bit harsh on me to label Jovanovich but still.

No offence taken, you are right.

Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque has urged Fernando Torres to delay his return from injury with Liverpool.

Torres returned to training in midweek following a lay-off with a knee problem and is line to return for the clash with Wigan on March 8.

European Champions Spain are amongst the favourites to take the Word Cup crown in July and the 59-year-old says his country's chances are improved by Torres being kept out of action.

The comments could anger Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who has seen his talisman play just 21 times this season.

He has notched 12 goals during an injury ravaged campaign that has seen the club struggle to hold onto the coveted fourth Champions League place.

Torres' recent battle with a groin problem was sustained whilst on international duty with Spain, reigniting the club versus country row that provides the backdrop to national team fixtures.

But del Bosque wants the 25-year-old to play less for the Merseysiders in an attempt to keep him in top condition for this summer's finals in South Africa.

He told the News of the World: "The fewer games Fernando plays for his club, the better it will be for us.

"We want him not to play too many games, to recover completely for the World Cup and have had some rest in between. We'd like him fresh for the tournament.

"That can only be good news for Spain. We hope Liverpool's loss will be our gain.

"Fernando Torres represents a crucial part of our squad."

It pisses me off that it is for Spain that he keeps getting injured and to the NOTW. What a c0ck!

What the f**k? They tell us to rest him, yet they pick him for 90 minutes in useless friendly matches against crappy opposition anyway during the International Breaks?

Screw you del Bosque.

I dont fecking believe this, leave the lad alone ffs . fuming here

The surprise return of Fernando Torres yesterday has led to reports in Spain that the Liverpool striker will be included in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for an upcoming friendly.

Torres played 15 minutes of Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City yesterday after 39 days out with a knee cartilage injury which was operated on.

The former Atletico Madrid striker is now expected to be included in the Spain squad for the friendly match with France on March 3 much to the chagrin of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez who will be eager to keep him fresh for the end of the season.

"El Nino" has previously picked up injuries whilst playing for Spain, most notably his groin problem in October.

Despite having no impact in the 15 minutes he played at Eastlands, Torres is now expected to play a part in Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Unirea Urziceni and Blackburn.

Fernando Torres has made 20 appearances for Liverpool in 2009/2010, scoring 12 goals.

If he plays in the UEFA cup, the league and the friendly he'll almost certainly get injured again. Crazy.

I suspect he'll not start both our matches.

TBH it makes no sense for Del Bosque to risk him in a friendly at this stage either.

Exactly. Wouldn't prove a thing, just contradict his aim which is for Torres to be fit for the World Cup. Is he going to prove his fitness in a friendly or for his club in the remainder of the season? Assuming the friendly isn't in England, surely staying in England rather than travelling could do him more good than harm?

Dear Rafa.

I have a plan. Go round to Fernando's house tonight for dinner and steal his passport so he can't leave the country to play for Spain on the 3rd March!!

Genius. My mates missus did that to him when we were all going away on a lads trip. It mysteriously re-appeared under the sofa the day after we got back from the trip.

wouldn't start him on thursday. i'd have him on the bench incase we need him and give him 20 minutes again.

let him off the leash against blackburn.

Rafa should pull him from that friendly. It makes no sense at all to let him go there.
