The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

Napoli can't afford his wages, doesn't look like that move is on.  Can't see him leaving unless one of the top 3 Italian clubs lose their LB for the season during August, and we feel comfortable with what Insua is doing and Aurelio's rehab. I think if we sold the doss and then insua became unavailable for whatever reason we would play:

Carra   Skrtel  Agger  Johnson

which means we need all the CBs fit, or else Degen is playing, or Darby, or Mascherano

but these are nightmare scenarios, unlikely to happen so I'm not gonna worry, we probably wont sell the doss anyway.

The politically correct term would be "travellers" because they are basically just nomadic Irish folks that move about the place in caravans like gypsies do, hence the slang "Gypos". It's just their way of life. Pikey is a more English term that they are known by. Don't know where it comes from, but in Ireland they are called "Tinkers" and sometimes "Knackers" although the word knacker has various meanings.

Not all of them are as bad as they are made out, but like you say, they are sort of a Mafia, with fueds often breaking out between rival families in different camps. As other have mentioned, they can be a serious pain in the balls, especially at funerals and such - always murder or someone getting shot. Crazy B@stards they are.

Anyway, speaking of travellers...I do believe Xabi is on his way? Rafa must have haggled like a gypsy to get his asking price out of them c@nts.

how did they get to be this way? how long have they been on the run? thousands of years? hundreds?

how often do normal people have run ins with these folk?

Think you could make a great comedy out of having a bunch of fired investment bankers and the the like forming their own band of gypos  :D

There have been Pikeys since the beginning of time. Hitler tried to exterminate them (and look what happened to him), the Romanians likewise and I think the Italians persecuted them as well. So they all came here.

Gosh , alonso is gone at last . A pity and i dare to say its a huge gamble to sell him since our team
was starting to look complete . Finding a direct replacement is a step backwards , alonso was the best in that position . Alonso makes our team 'click' subconciously . Its a make or break season with the replacement that Rafa is going to purchase .

His best midfield signing was Alonso , juz have to wait and see how the top that off .
And to be honest , I'm scared .

As they spent so much time travelling on them the term "pikey" in reference to gypsies or travellers is taken from the word Turnpike which as you all know was, in England at least, an old word for the main arteries that connected one town to another.

Joe re.
We don't really have gypsys, at least I don't think we do. Not sure exactly what they are.  why don't they try and get jobs or settling in one place? do they enjoy living the way they do?

There was a tv show from the US called "The Riches" starring Eddie Izzard, it was about a family of "Pikey's" and their Pikey community. Glamourised of course but no doubt the seed for the show has some factual basis i.e there are Pikey communities in the USA.

:no Hope we put some sort of claus in his contract cause if they dont win anything again he will be the first one shipped out. I still feel very bitter about the whole thing signing for them kunts of all people so cant wish him luck, and that is purely for selfish reasons cause I want us to do so well next season his departure has made the job more difficult than it already was.
