Inclined to agree - I suggested as much in the Arbeloa thread. Just hope it is sorted quickly and Rafa finds a quality replacement.

I like Xabi but it is not the end of the world especially at £28m/£30m for a player that has had one outstanding season after a major kick up the backside. Could quite possibly be replaced with somebody that is more rounded and scores goals!

yes we can !

xabi has done brilliant for us, one of my favourite players since rafa came to our club.

was disappointed with how he was treated last summer, but what a great reaction to it, he has every right to want to leave but i wish it was done sooner and madrid weren't acting cheap over this deal (as if money is a big deal to them)

having said that rafa must have something planned for if and when he leaves, even though he has only put in a request today this has been goin on for a looooong time and we must have players in mind to bring in.

and i pray to god cattermole and turner aint gonna be them....

I was hoping he would/could be talked into staying for another season seeing as we have such a good chance, players like Alonso are hard to come by so it would have given us a little time to find a better replacement.

Chances are Rush Job that he has told Rafa along time ago that he wanted to go, Rafa will have some lined up, this whole saga is only going on so long because of the fee between the two clubs. His decision to go or stay has been made a long time ago Id say

I feel sick at the news that he's handed in a transfer request, thought I suppose it was coming, owing to the fact that he was treated badly last season. I just hope that Rafa has already got someone "worthy" lined up as a replacement, though Cattermole and Turner don't exactly light up the lights :(

Come on Xabi, please stay.

Such a shame he seems intent on leaving, one of the best players in the squad and his role cannot simply be replaced. I guess the up side is that we will keep Mash, but if we have to replace Xabi then I would like to see a more direct creative player coming in. Having said that I have no idea at all who that is going to be!!!!

Looks like Alonso is off.  I hope these stories of Cattermole being a replacement are not true.  His nowhere near the level of Xabi.

Shabby, Alonso.

I'm just devastated.

We're on the brink, the closest we've ever been to winning the league in the past ten seasons.

Why do you have to leave? :(
