£35m for Alonso, I'd take that. I'm sure we can find a great replacement for around £25m and spend the other 10 elsewhere. Granted, he's been fantastic this year but the years before he was well off form. £35m is like robbing them, throw Huntelaar in there n all and they've got a deal :D

Nothing less mind

Okay which are the couple of players which can replace xabi and how much would they cost , off the top of my head i can think of xavi but he would cost the world , diego who's off to juventus .

Exactly.

There isn't anyone we could guarantee would equal or improve on alonso and would cost <25

Additionally I think his "poor" form a season or So ago is being exaggerated by many. He certainly wasn't a bad player in that time...

There's probably only two or three players in the world that I have confidence would be an improvement on Alonso.

We could probably look at Veloso or Mountinho as a option players that could do a job though

that's laughable

there'as a difference between selling alonso to madrid or milan for big money and then there's shooting yourself in the foot by selling him to a club in your own league that is likely to be a main competitor next season

same thing happened last season

they throw enough money arouns and put in a load of offers they'll eventually find a mercenary player or club who's desperate enough (and it could be us, base d on our financial situation  )

We could actually get 50 to 60 million from them :D , but rafa won't do any business with them as they will be challenging us and i doubt xabi would want to play for them . City are :censored: and the market is going to be so inflated

The Spain international midfielder could be on his way out of Anfield this summer due to a breakdown in his relationship with manager Rafael Benitez...

Manchester City are preparing a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso during the close-season, according to a report in the British tabloid the Daily Mirror.

The Spain international has been heavily linked with Primera Division giants Real Madrid, who have apparently made an approach but are yet to make an official offer.

A bid in the region of €22.5 million (£20m) could land the 6ft playmaker, despite reports earlier in the week that the Reds might hold out for closer to €40m (£35.5m).

But the Citizens are ready to rival los Blancos and have placed the midfielder at the top of their wanted list.

It seems that the 27-year-old is very likely to leave Anfield as his relationship with manager Rafael Benitez has deteriorated since he was put up for sale last summer.

Benitez may be prepared to cash-in on the former Real Sociedad star this year, but he wants Alonso to hand in a transfer request so that it does not look like the midfielder is being forced out of the Merseyside outfit.

However, it seems that any potential deal may be held up as Alonso does not want to hand in a request.

Should he be allowed to leave, it is thought that Real Madrid and possibly even Barcelona will be in for the player, who is said to be keen to return to his country of birth.

Joining City, on the other hand, would allow his family to remain in the north west of England, where they have settled.
