I very much doubt it mate, only if he's BLOODY stupid. Alonso would be a beast in that Arsenal side with the way they pass the ball  :(

Well Scott, don't you pay attention? we have learned in newkit that we could nullify his game just making Torres press him a little. :D

Jokes aside, it would be stupid to sell him for 14M to any english club. Any selling to a rival club must be much more expensive for obvious reasons, a) they're our rivals b)English clubs have more money.

*But* if there was really a fall out for the Milan affaire OR Rafa really thinks he's not necessary to win the league any more, I do think he could perfectly sell Alonso for a very important sum to Arsenal. My hopes though are that Alonso stays, and trains hard showing he can bench Barry, Senna or whoever might come.

The Fenerbahce move seems unlikely. That would mean not only a step lower in club level, but also putting in risk his international status: You don't have the same chances of playing in Spain if you re in Liverpool or if you're in Fenerbahce.

Alonso to Arsenal rumour in this report, read the last line of the article on Hleb from SSN today:

Barcelona have confirmed Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb will undergo a medical on Wednesday before completing his move to Camp Nou.

Hleb has been a leading transfer target for Barca over the summer and a deal is now close to being finalised.

The Belarusian revealed last week that 'serious negotiations' were underway with Barca after he had become 'tired' of living in London.

He is due to arrive in Barcelona on Wednesday lunchtime before being put through a series of medical tests throughout the day.

The Spanish giants have confirmed on their official website that, providing Hleb passes his medical, he could sign his contract within 24 hours.

No details of the fee agreed between Barca and Arsenal have been disclosed, nor the length of contract Hleb has been offered.

Skysports.com revealed last week that the former Stuttgart schemer was close to securing his exit from Emirates Stadium.

Hleb joined Arsenal in an £11.2million deal in 2005 and he has scored 10 goals in 130 appearances for the club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already brought in a replacement for Hleb in the guise of Samir Nasri and has also been linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Why not sell Alonso to Arsenal , according to some ,he's been sh!te for the past two years and he can't cut it in the prem anyway , it's to fast for him . He's better in europe where the pace of the game is slower . If he's :censored: at Liverpool in the league ,why will he be any different at Arsenal .  :;):

The differrence methinks, is that in Arsenal, he'll not be rotated too much as they've got a smaller squad. So has time to play himself back into form..... and he has outlets on the wings. Plus they play a sublime passing game which would make it much harder for teams to "press" 'em coz they move the ball around too quickly. In their set-up, he'll be devastating... he's eminently suited to that team.

I think he's eminently suited to our team and system of play . If he's not fast enough to play in the Liverpool team , he's certainly not fast enough too play in a sublime fast paced passing team. :;):

The difference between them and us of course is they haven't got Masherano. Now if the little Argentine was also available, no prizes for guessing which one Wenger would be going for :D

I think Bad Bob is on the money when he tries to interpret the situation. Probably Ibañez, Xabi's agent is doing his job and making us know Xabi is on the market.

I too expect the Spurs story, as soon as the Ronaldo story and millions are splashed and then the chain reaction begins, new stories will be unfold.

BTW, I think Bigmick does well to be skeptical about this rumours. I am too, it's a good rule when it comes to summer articles.

Rumours are rumours and facts and facts, though: Wenger was in Anoeta (RS stadium) twice in 2004 , and Ferguson's brother three times between 2003,2004. That suggests that there *may* be something of truth in that interest of Wenger, because I can't possibly think what else could Wenger be doing in San Sebastian otherwise.

Curiously enough, Rafa Benitez never went to San Sebastian to watch Alonso, but he went to a Everton 2 - 2 Real Sociedad summer friendly, where reportedly he went to the dressroom and talked with Xabi and the RS coach.

Once again ripped from rawk. This from shankslegend ,who's pretty much in the know regarding transfers. It's more to do with Robbie Keane ,but he mentions ALonso aswell.

I think we might have him, could see Alonso going the other way do, however i doubt he will go to spurs as they dont have CL football and he really wants to stay with us.

There are potentially 2 targets if this falls through, one player who i certainly think will take all boxes.

Sorry but am I the only one to think that Rafa is being a bit unfair towards Xabi. The guy stayed at home to witness the birth of his child, what kind of a cold heartless w&nker is Rafa if that is his reason for wanting to get rid of him?
The bottom line though is that if we don't sell Xabi then we can forget about getting Barry and Keane, some of you guys don't seem to realise that the econcomy is fecked, I'm amazed there is any transfer activity at the moment!
Actually swapping Xabi for Keane makes a hell of a lot of sense to me, they need more quality midfielders and we need more quality strikers.
