And Im afriad the same thing is going to happen should Xabi leave barry wont lace his boots

i dont watch Villa a lot and Ive only seen cameo appearences for England but I love our Xabi hes lovely and I just dont want him to leave.

And if Rafa HAS to sell him to buy then i will personally feckin kill them yankie pair of tw@ts.

Its a :censored: shame what is happening. I thought he was ok against Chelsea in the semi at home. We need strength in depth and :censored: Lukas isnt it.

If this is true I will really miss Xabi. Those 65 yard goals he scored against Luton and Newcastle were pure class!

Imagine this scenario, Chelsea hires a new manager and the new manager likes Xabi Alonso. Chelsea is ready to pay a good sum for Xabi. What would you prefer? get the money and Xabi going to a rival, or going cheaper abroad? Just curious.

I prefer the former, because I think it would help Liverpool more. In any case, even in a must sell scenario, I don't see a single reason to hurry up in all this, let alone signing this week a 12M transfer. We'd better wait.

Doesn't seem we are inundated with offers for him, either home or abroad at the moment. I can't see any need to hurry the sale either Sabre.

I would prefer he goes for the most money - even to a rival, but I DOUBT MOST WOULD.

If I had the option I would prefer swopping him for a decent creative forward, but I would presume we have already tried that?

I don't know how valid or strong the rumours are, but if correct, they would appear to suggest that Rafa is (in effect) looking to swap Alonso for Barry. Now, whilst I can understand it to a certain extent - Alonso hasn't been on form for a while, whilst Barry has been - I don't agree with it for the reason that Xabi is much the better player when he's on form, and we have other key areas of the team which require significant strengthening.

The unfortunate part of the whole episode is that Xabi is worth round and about what Juventus are offering. I know there have been a few "he's by far the most important player at the club"s flying about on here these last eighteen months or so, and one or two who even to this day refuse to accept that he played better in his first season than he has since, but if we take the loyalty away, the fact that he's a nice fella and good pro etc etc, purely as a footballer in English football that's about his true worth give or take a couple fo mill.

I'm not convinced FWIW that with a slight alteration to his method he still isn't a better better bet as a central midfielder than Barry, but obviously the manager doesn't agree. I remain fairly certain that in actual fact Masherano is more than capable of performing the holding midfielders role on his own, and I guess that the manager thinks Barry may actually be able to chip in with the odd goal and spend the majority of the game closer to Gerrard than he is to Carragher.

I think that Xabi could have done it just as well if not better, but as I've been told enough times on here a bloke who sells dildo's for a living shouldn't try and tell the manager his job. Equally, I'm sure they've tried to get Xabi out of the pocket at Melwood, but as I aren't privvie to training sessions I would have no idea how they've gone. From the fact we're listening to offers around 12 mill' though, the inevitable conclusion is not too well.

Liverpool slap £16m price tag on Alonso
May 22 2008 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

JUVENTUS will have to bid at least £16million to tempt Liverpool into considering parting with Xabi Alonso.

The Serie A side have made no secret of their desire to sign the Spanish midfielder, who is in his country’s squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 finals.

Juventus director Jean-Claude Blanc was in Liverpool on Tuesday for a meeting with Anfield officials to discuss a number of transfer options, with Alonso top of the Italians’ wanted list.

Liverpool are not looking to sell Alonso and would only contemplate doing business with Juventus for a mammoth £16m.

And while no bid has yet been made by the Serie A outfit, coach Claudio Ranieri is determined to pair the 26-year-old with his former team-mate Momo Sissoko – who joined Juventus for £8.2m in January – at the heart of midfield for next season.

Alonso has consistently claimed to be happy with life at Anfield and last week insisted he has no plans to end his four-year spell at the club this summer.

But with Benitez closing on the capture of Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry, the Spaniard would face further competition for his place at Anfield next season with Lucas Leiva and Javier Mascherano already vying for roles in central midfield.

Of the Liverpool manager, Alonso said recently: “He has never said that he wants me to leave. If he thought that way I would prefer him to be honest and say ‘Xabi, we are thinking about other players and you are not going to play that much’.

“Then I would look for a different option. But he still thinks I can play an important role.”

Rafa ?  :D

I don't think anyone thinks that an on form Barry is better than an on form Alonso mate , its just been a while since Alonso has been on form. He is one of the top earners and it appears we are not going to get the funds from Hicks and Gillet so we have to sell before we buy.

I think there is quite a few should be on there way before Alonso, but maybe we have had no offers for those yet?

Seems that the transfer has been agreed in principle and now we are just trying to get the best price.

I would have preferred Barry to have already signed before letting Alonso go..... if Barry does a Gerrard and changes his mind at the last minute we are going to look fkn stupid having sold Alonso.

My concern is that we're focusing on the centre of midfield which would be one of the last positions needs focusing on not the first. Unless we're going to sell Alonso and sign Barry with a profit on the two deals overall I don't see the point. And if potential buyers get wind of us wanting or needing to sell Alonso then prices might go down.

Besides, if we have to sell before we buy then why are we hearing all about the Barry deal and not all about an Alonso deal? (outgoing of course) You're right that there are plenty that should be outgoing before Alonso, however there are likely to be a lot less interested in say Riise than Alonso. I've said plenty of times Crouch is a saleable player and we should sell, whether you rate him or not there are plenty out there interested - or so we're to believe.

And what is it with the middle of the park? How many players have we had in there under Rafa?

How do you know that should Barry come in that he would go right into the middle? He could well come in and end up on the left with Lukas playing a bigger role in the centre with Stevie come next season.

at this rate we're going to have to sell juventus the rights to the 'best midfield in the world' song. if xabi goes to them they'll have half of 'em

No doubt a fúckwit in London will know better than anybody what fancies Alonso most, but, for what is worth, Alonso, on Holidays in San Sebastian has told the local media that he knows nothing of this and he feels like playing in Liverpool many years.

So, at least, the "Alonso is keen to go Vechia Signora" is utter bóllocks. Let's see the rest.

Image

Alonso today.

The interview is around his former team and the Euro but has questions related to all this rumours

Quotes:

"My future is in Liverpool".

"We were superior to Chelsea, Riise's own goal was devastating, but he doesn't deserve to receive stick for it"

"I wish we'll challenge for the premier title next year. We're getting closer, but we can't afford to draw 13 games, we have to get close to that 90 required points. The premiership need that amount of points to win it, unlike other leagues".

"It's a privilege and a honour to play every 15 days in Anfield"

About the Juve rumours

Not that it's a new rumour to me, I've hearing similar things all this time. I know perfectly what's the situation. I'm certain that Juve hasn't contacted me and I'm certain that the club doesn't have plans to sell me. If the club wanted to make cash with me, I'd accept it and I'd go to another club, but if that was the case, I'd expect they'd tell me their intention to sell me beforehand".

Sabre when you say "Alonso today" do you mean that this interview was from earlier?

His comments definatley point to him wanting to stay and personally I want him to stay. Hes world class through and through..

But it looks like wouldnt put up a fight to stay if the club were to sell him.
