Set pieces! set pieces!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Just finished watching the game and here are my thoughts.

Always tough playing at Trafford, a hard fought battle so we lose with pride. For once Manchester didn't cheat as much to win a game, though that corner shouldn't had been a corner.

The first half was quite poor. Manchester ran faster to the ball and got it to the box quickly and with pace. We gave the ball away a bit too much for my liking. I was disapointed with Cisse for not running after the ball, to me it seems that he wants the ball right at his feet and that won't happen like he thinks it will.

This time it wasn't Dudek's fault for the goal, it was our defence. We alowed a goal from a set piece which is our weakness at the moment. Nobody covered Silvestre, he had plenty of time to score and he did.

Seeing Gerrard walk away so early was gutting, perhaphs if he didnt injur his foot we might had a few more chances to score.

In the second half we played better, we even kept the possesion more than Man Utd. They started to slip on their turf and we equalized which was a gift. The times we should had attacked more we didn't, not as many crosses to the box as Manchester had.

I thought Garcia played a descent game, lost the ball a couple of times when he shouldn't had. We didn't capitilize on the situations where Man Utd gave the ball away.

At least we didn't lose at home however two losses from home is not good at the moment.

LFC Defence: 5/10 Josemi and Hyppia did a good job in the back but we allowed two goals from set pieces and it was due to bad defence.

LFC Midfield: 6.5 Not as nearly good as it should, we made good passes to the front but Cisse and Baros had something else in mind. Alonso looked very solid, he's a inteligent footballer, the shot from the middle of the pitch showed that. If he was just a bit faster it would had been an amazing goal.

LFC Offence: 6/10 Quite poor. Cisse had a perfect chance to score at the begining but he didn't. He didn't run after the ball, seemed a bit lazy at times but he is still new to the Premiership. Baros had a good chance as well but had a little mis-communication with Carragher[or was it Finnan] and couldn't shoot on goal. Basicaly our offence wasn't a threat

A win would had been great but I was expecting a draw to be honest. But as the saying goes "Nothing can replace a win". Norwich is next, Nunez might play and three points should be picked up there. After that its Chelsea.

Oh and before any Manc here decides to say what execuses have I made because we lost, there are none. We didn't play well as well as we should had and that costed us. This is football, part of the game but knowing the English media you will be hearing about how "GREAT"[/sarcasm] Manchester is a bit too much.

This will be a long season for every club out there, things have changed since last season, expect a battle in every game. Don't lose hope and faith because we lost like some of you did when we lost to Bolton. We are still inconsistent and Manchester isn't any better than we are with consistency.

YNWA,keep the faith.

good post mate
i think we took Cisse  off just as it looked as if he was getting into the game  but at the same time baros come on and did not do much right away but still looked as if he was up to speed with the game right away, i think we should start with baros in the next game and see if he can get his place back  Cisse  runs all over the place for 60mins and then runs out of steam he needs to take his time and when he gets the ball take a look up before he shoots to see if there is a player with more of a chance .
as for the defence well not sure what i can say but we seem never been able to be any good at defence of corners i think thats just liverpool

The front was concerning, Cisse wasn't putting any effort to get the ball. He's a good player but needs to settle in with his team-mates.

Agree

That was irritating not chasing down balls he just needs to get the pace and time his runs hopefully not far away

it would have been interesting to see how much injury time would have been played if the score line was reversed

3 mins was fair . 1 minute injury time at end of first half couldn't come quick enough as we were very poor fist half . rallied a little second half and nearly snatched a point.

We conceded two goals from set pieces tonight. Is this a coincidence or not? Could this be a problem when we replace irish and english with spaniards? Buy 2 new big, strong, quick cental defenders as soon as possible.

We need a top drawer centre back , it's been said so often on here. carra's done us proud at centre back , always does whatever position he is asked to play but we do need to strengthen at the back.

Yeah bitter result especially with Silvestre scoring both  but hopefully we will learn from
Despite the good result against Monaco it was going to be tough to get away result against wounded beast like the MANCs
Stevie G injury is big blow and those who were not so long saying we should offload Didi now that Alonso is here well you will be glad we didnt

maybe i didn't see the same game -- cisse looked just like all of houllier's other french imports -- i really hope he gets his act together soon -- 14 million and he just doesn't look like he cares out there -- maybe a long ride on the pine may help

i was sick watching this debacle but you know what - lose gerrard and they sucked it up -- they could have folded but they got better

benitez is a great manager and his imports all look good -- add nunez and hopefully we can survive until steve gets back -- you know the team may get stronger for it in the long run
