Nan, think back to the 70´s and 80´s, the toilets on the Kop, the gamble with death going down the stairs at the end of the game, the coldness of the Kemlyn and Main stands through poor design, the blind spots, narrow seats and no leg room.

Anfield is an institution but it is NOT the ideal stadium. If only we could have a stadium like the national one in Cardiff which became our second home....

We have to move forward with the times and not be sentimental after a few glasses of brandy.

All the rage in America now is to sell the rights to the actual grass pitch, and then keep the stadium name (i.e. Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium )

Id prefer if the stadium was named maybe Adidas Arena or something. I don't mind Carlsberg on the shirt but as a stadium it sounds wierd.

no way the stadium will be named after carlsberg. we will lose our identity. Anfield is a name that sit among the greats in football history. the new stadium should be name "new anfield" or something like that.

who the f carlsberg think they are? their current deal with us is 7 mil per season, and this sum is not comparable with chelshit and mancs deals with their sponsor.

This is jus carlsberg makin the most of the yanks incompetence, and who can blame them? What an ad for them, and what a sales opportunity for us with the best stadium in the world.....probably!

You can see money makin opportunities comin outta the yanks ears, shirts bein the main one for them. I aint totally against it, but seein as Bolton's ground is always called the reebok I'd hate to go that route an play at the carlsberg. I personally think so long as Anfield is an integral part of the name then it'll always jus be Anfield. No tv or radio company are gonna plug a beer where they dont have to cuz of the backlash they'll get from various action groups. I doubt Alan Greens gonna commentate from the Carlsberg Anfield if he can jus say Anfield now is he?

If it brings in extra money, if that in turn brings in more players, and if that in turn brings the PL trophy to (The Carlsberg) Anfield I'll be happy with it.

And that is Carlsbergs fault how?

Why shouldn't they try and get their name on the stadium, what is wrong with that?

If Liverpool want more money out of Carlsberg then will have to try something revolutionary, they will have to NEGOTIATE.

well the paradox of money versus club identity/traditions.
what does the fans want? if, and i am saying if we name the stadium " carlsberg stadium" the name will stay for a good century, 100 yrs. "this is anfield" vs "this is carlsberg". what the deal?
how much do you think the naming rights is worth? 100 mil?
i dont think carlsberg can afford that. my 2cents is, we dont sell that. it just dont feel right.

my hats down to barca in this aspect, they never have a sponsor for their shirt until recently with unicef, a charitable organisation, for free. for me, a football club should stay a football club first, a business second.

i wonder if the yanks have thought of selling bricks to fans for the new stadium? This would generate a hellof a lot of money if they were to sell bricks at £50 each with yuor name engraved on it which you would the see when you travelled to the new stadium.

I reckon they could generate circa 30 million.

Liverpool need new stadium to compete with Manchester United, says Rafael Benitez

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has told the club's owners they will struggle to compete for the Premier League title until the new stadium is built.

Construction work on Anfield's 60,000-seat replacement was halted last year as Tom Hicks and George Gillett said financing the project had been made more difficult due to the global financial crisis and downturn.

Another issue for Liverpool's American owners is that they must refinance a loan of around £250 million from Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia by July

"On an economic level we cannot fight with the other big teams, at least for now, in particular because of the stadium," Benitez said. "Old Trafford has 76,000 seats, the Emirates has 60,000, Chelsea can count on Abramovich.

"Until we have a new stadium, we will not be able to compete economically. In the meantime we'll have to do things very well to be competitive."

Shirt sponsor Carlsberg, the Danish brewer, said last week that it was interested in buying the naming rights to the new stadium in Stanley Park, which is adjacent to Anfield.

Liverpool's pursuit of its first title since 1990 was ended on Saturday when Manchester United matched its north west rival's record haul of 18 championships.

But second-placed Liverpool, who beat West Brom 2-0 on Sunday, have finally established themselves as a threat to United, beating Alex Ferguson's team twice this season, including a 4-1 rout at Old Trafford.

"We have to first consolidate the level we have reached. We have a better squad now, a structure that works better with very capable people that have a huge amount of desire," Benitez said. "That will bear fruit in the future.

"I have a five-year contract with the power to take decisions, to do things the way I think they should be done, which guarantees, despite the difficulty of the English league, the possibility to be in the race for titles," Benitez said.
