It's great that you summon God-like powers and influence for big finals, Steve; but games like this in the league should be treated the same.

Jesus mate he's rescued us time and time and time again this season and it's still not enough ??? Feck me what's he got to do?

If we'd left him on against Wigan he probably would have rescued us again as well. He generally does.

What has Gerrard ever done for us?

Xerxes: What exactly are the demands?
Reg: We're giving Parry two days to dismantle the entire apparatus of Liverpool FC and if he doesn't agree immediately we execute Gerrard.
Matthias: Cut his head off?
Francis: Cut all his bits off, send 'em back every hour on the hour... show him we're not to be trifled with.
Reg: Also, we're demanding a ten foot mahogany statue of Fernando Torres with his :censored: hanging out.
Stan: What? They'll never agree to that, Reg.
Reg: That's just a bargaining counter. And of course, we point out that they bear full responsibility when we chop him up, and... that we shall not submit to blackmail.
Omnes: (Applause) No blackmail!
Reg: They've bled us white, the :censored:. They've taken everything we had, not just from us, from our fathers and from our fathers' fathers.
Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers.
Reg: Yes.
Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers.
Reg: All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what has Gerrard ever given us in return?
Xerxes: Goals.
Reg: Oh yeah, yeah he gave us that. Yeah. That's true.
Masked Activist: And the assists!
Stan: Oh yes... assists, Reg, you remember what the team used to be like.
Reg: All right, I'll grant you that the goals and the assists are two things that Gerrard has done...
Matthias: And the tackles...
Reg: (sharply) Well yes obviously the tackles... the tackles go without saying. But apart from the goals, the assists and the tackles...
Another Masked Activist: Headers...
Other Masked Voices: cups...  LEAGUE CUP... FA CUP...
Reg: Yes... all right, fair enough...
Activist Near Front: And the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE...
Omnes: Oh yes! True!
Francis: Yeah. That's something we'd really miss if Gerrard left, Reg.
Masked Activist at Back: UEFA cup!
Stan: And he can play almost anywhere.
Francis: Yes, he certainly knows how to play football... (general nodding)... let's face it, he's the only one who could in a place like this.

(more general murmurs of agreement)
Reg: All right... all right... but apart from goals, assists and TACKLES and cHAMPIONS LEAGUE and FA cup's and League cups and uefa cups and playing anywhere... what has Gerrard done for us?

Ok just to be an advocate.  Rafa stated it was due to him being tired and SG does get tired or at least I think he does but without being at the match its a hard shout as only the matchgoers can say whether he looked like he could possibly incurr an injury or something or Rafa was scared of him getting hurt as he did have some attention off Wigan.  Being the practical guy he his this is the only reason I can think of.

Torres seemed like a reasonable shout as he is struggling for form but at least got another start.

Again I was gutted but we have to move forward and I can only assume that Rafa was thinking about Chelsea.

I can see his logic but this time I dont agree although the team did not play well and with 7 mins to go sometimes you know its a losing battle and god forbid if SG had been injured if he had stayed on but I also think just go for it.

He has to take stick if his decisions dont pay off and he is getting stick but I still believe in him and support him and this league aint over yet

With the level of idiocy, bile and downright ignorance on show from posters such as Heimdall, Tonyeh, Effes and devaney, is it not worth entering debate.

I could evoke more sense from a packet of Scampi Fries than this lot. :no

Two weeks ago I'd have agreed with you about devaney, but he's nice to me these days so I'm happy to admit I was wrong about his football knowledge, he's an expert.

The other guys are all extremely knowledgeable in my experience  :;):

That said i did used to like a bit of spliff when I was young bloke. Feck me you shoulda heard me then, Jesus.

Anyway, all that aside I'm glad you're on. You would have known you'd cop a bit of flack and you're still about. Fair play.

He might have rescued us again, but going from his performance over 90% of the match, he would not have done much. He had a bad game; we all know that. Why its hard to accept that is what I cannot fathom.

IMO the issue was not the subs. Its the almost instantaneous decision to play cagey once we take a lead. It invites the opponent to take the initiative and a team short on confidence visibly gets nervous and tentative. Mistakes creep in and the opponent inevitably scores...

We saw it even with Preston until thankfully we got the 2nd goal...Our football is held hostage by over analysis
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.
