I think the more important food debate has to do with what we are putting into our pigs, chickens, and cows. I couldn't really give a rat's :censored:

what these beasts' quality of life is like, but it is important not to use too many chemicals in treating the foods that they eat.

you need to inform yourself a but more if you're going to be debate master. sharks, as a whole, are not an endangered species and so eating selected varieties is fine. the biggest danger to sharks in general is the chinese (surprise, surprise) and their determination not to stop ripping their fins off then leaving them to die.

as with just about every action we undertake in our lives eating meat should be done with consideration. don't eat endangered species and try and avoid eating animals that have had to suffer to be brought to the table. myself, i love foi grois, fukkin gorgeous stuff, but i won't eat it because i don't agree with the way it is produced. likewise, i try and avoid eating intensely farmed chicken - it tastes sh!t and the birds have suffered.

of course, its very difficult to always be certain and at times its impossible to stick by my own rules. the intention is there though, and if i can stick to it 90% of the time i'm ok with that.

kangaroo is delicious and so are frogs legs, so are snails, sea urchins, jellyfish, lambs hearts, venison and all sorts of other good stuff.

Sharks are not b@stards!The ocean is their home,ya go there where ya know they are and you take your chances..simple as that!
They dont deserve to be killed especially the way they pull them out with a barb slice their fins off and throw them back in to die in agony...All for fins to make shark fin soup..Fu*king disgusting and pure evil!
Sharks deserve respect,fantastic creature IMO!
They've been here a lot longer than us and they'll probably be here when we have gone as well!

I worked at a chicken processing plant for three summers during my uni days (good money). It's an eye-opener, make no mistake. Industrial farming has given rise to some truly scary franken-foods that most of us wouldn't touch with a barge pole, let alone put in our mouths, if we knew what was in it.

I still eat chicken, albeit infrequently, and I'm very selective about who I buy it from (free range from local producers whenever possible). The same goes for other meats and fish. I must say that one of the big drawbacks about living so far away from my in-laws in Wisconsin is that we miss out on the fresh venison they get each hunting season. So many people I know frown on hunting because of supposed cruelty to the animals but they kill a couple of does or a single buck (instantly in most cases because they're handy with a rifle and make sure they have a clear kill shot before squeezing the trigger) each November and that'll feed them for a good chunk of the year.

Nothing wrong with hunting whatsoever...shooting a wild animal is a quick death,theres nothing more humane than a bullet!
Besides..hunters respect the animals(even though they kill them)!

Anything that can be used is used.....perfectly acceptable IMO!

Spot on, Baz--it's over quick (if done right), it all gets used (whatever they don't eat, their cat gets instead of kibble and they sell the skin) and they have the advantage of knowing that their meat supply has not been pumped full of antibiotics/hormones, as well as additional garbage on the processing lines. My father-in-law won't take the shot unless he knows it'll kill the deer (it's more work tracking a wounded animal anyway!) and he refuses to take the sport out of it like some do (putting feed out for deer in their yard so you can shoot them from the porch etc.). Besides, nothing gives you more respect for killing an animal than having to clean up the mess you've made in doing so. When you're up to your elbows in deer intestines, you tend to be a lot less blase about enjoying those venison striploins down the road. :nod

Agreed!
Although its not for me!Went rabbit hunting once using ferrets.I was young at the time and never thought about it!
Ferrets are evil little feckers..They caught a baby rabbit in a dead end and ripped it to shreds,they had to dig to get the wee shi'ts out.The rabbit was still alive,but was mauled to bits and had its eyes eaten!
Totally horrible..NEVER AGAIN!

I'm not talking about ripping their fins off and throwing them in. They are edible just like any other animal and doesn't deserve special treatment, as long as it isn't killed in a brutal way.

I'm no expert, but I would guess that sharks, like most preditors are crucial to their ecosystem in controlling the populations of smaller animals. Think of an African plain without Lions, too many Zebras and Gazelles and water buffalo around without any fear of being eaten, and they would eat up all the grass, and then all the vulture type creatures would be screwed as well.

1) Without a doubt any Nazi war criminals should be prosecuted even if found now. Just becasue they are old or have managed to remain unknown all these years is no excuse for the crimes they commited.

2) This is a tricky one. Id like to say make it legal like in Amsterdam but at the same time we should hear from someone in Amsterdam who can give us the lowdown on the negatives. Thing is people will always get trafficked into this business.

3) Yes without a doubt they should be named and shamed. At what point does one draw a line? This shouldnt even be a question.
