Just read the Reading thread Leon, we have Rafa called everything from a f*ckwit to crazy for playing that formation. No one can explain why he changed things.

I am one of the few that actually tried to defend him! But I still said I couldn't understand why he played that formation.

in 2004 -2005 season, 2nd half of the season.... I remember rafa suddenly changing to a very flexible 4-5-1/4-3-3 'strange' formation that we never ever played before (I swear!)... the result was a series of easy wins 3 or 4 games on the trod... with gerrard and crouch linking well with wingers like kewell and the spanish guy from real madrid that we swapped owen with...lots of goals... that turned out to the benefit of the team...

Yet, on reflection you think he palyed that team and formation and tactics, NOT to win the game, but JUST TO SHOW HE WAS CLEVER ?

I thought it showed he was very clever.

Rafa seemed at times more interested in showing how clever he was rather than picking a team that would win the game.
