Torres - He doesn't need a strike partner

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Yes - me too - but that's how it is and perhaps it says a lot about the club's standing prior to Rafa's arrival - a giant slumbering on past glories - now a European force rebuilding a domestic profile to challenge at the top - going places with a repected manager to play for.

Hardly a surprise mate. You know which papers make the campaigns, Marca and AS. You know their colours.

This is the photo that has selected Marca to echo Torres' words.

I guess they captured hundreds of photos until they found one in which Torres "seems" to be looking to Casillas with envy.

That's the spanish press, every imaginable way to manipulate is used :D

They seem to have gotten themselves a fantastic replacement with Aguero though

Pity we'll have to do the same again this summer and take him from you too :D

There were rumors of us going for Aguero before he moved to Atletico. And to be honest that was the time when we should have gone for him but I doubt we could afford him now in our current position.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Doubt they will be willing to let Aguero go for anything less than 30 million .

Well this topic is about Torres isn't? Aguero will not move the next summer if the team isn't really bad this year, i am sure of that.

From what I have read Aguero (who I agree is a great player) didn't like playing with Torres, and thought they wernt very compatable. Is that true? and if so why do you think they struggled. I would have thought they were a match made in heaven.

He'll give a better insight, but Torres and Agüero played together only in the first season of Aguero, and in that year S@int, Aguero was in the bench many games. So rather than a "failure" of partnership I'd say that it was a "progressive adaptation", they didn't play together that much. Perhaps because they knew it wasn't going to be a partnership in the long term?

It was this comment that Aguero made, that made me wonder Sabre, "he couldn't play to the best of his ability under him" (him being Torres)

Seems a strange and rather harsh judgement after so little time together?

Yeh, but a partnership always must be understood in a context.

Meaning, the same partnership could work in Liverpool, because behind that partnership you have Gerrard and Mascherano, who are strong. But if you played both of them with the likes of Maniche, it would be a weak team, and Aguero or Torres would be asked to do extra work, as playing two pure strikers here is rare. I hope he meant that.

Anyway, I agree that those words are a bit harsh, I missed them. Aguero wasn't playing at the level he's playing now, I think progression and adaptation of a very young lad is a better explanation than Torres' absence.

S@int I have neer heard exactly that. The problem I think is tha Aguero was only 18 and arrives from another country, and another kind of football. And the most important I think, i was physically poor, and he couldn't scored in the last 15 matches. In that team played a lot of matches Jurado where now plays Simao, and Galleti where now plays Maxi because Petrov (today in ManCity) and Maxi were injured like Skrtel. It is a big offensive diference. And Forlan is a really good asociative player, but it is true that Aguero is better than when he arrived. He has said lot of times that at the end of the season he had no confidence in himself. Then he played the sub20 world cup and he thinks that was like a therapy for him and he started to belive that he can be one of the best players in the world.

Ok you have convinced me, we will take him,  do you take travelers cheques or would you prefer cash  :D

Seriously, I saw him a few times before he joined your club, and I was desperate for Liverpool to sign him.
