No, I'm not concerned.

You may have noticed that no team advances a lot the line these days against us. That doesn't suit Torres, but helps other players. The opposition teams are trying to defend well Torres. Everton and Manchester City tried to avoid he turns back and faces and opposition player. They did a good job defending Torres, but still Torres managed to score.

Torres is a massive asset for us. If the opposition tries to cover his chest with the blanket, they'll leave the feet uncovered, no doubt Torres is a nightmare for every oppo coach.

I don't think he'll get as much goals as last season but yes 70%, he cannot do the best season of his life every season .

What I thrills me about having fernando torres is "having fernando torres". By that I mean his presence has defences guessing worrying and setting up tactics to stop just him. If keane grows into the team a bit more he will fiind scoring a lot easier in my opinion by the mere fact that EVERY team in the league has to defend well against torres. This is where the second striker needs to come to the fore, all attention will be drawn to torres, who i fully expect to get 20+ goals but if we are to win the league there needs to be a 10 - 15+ scorer in our team and with Gerrard and keane we have the potential of two. The rest of the squad needs to step up but I don't xpect that many from Kuyt(MHO) but in gerrard and keane we have two players that jave done those figures before. And if the likes of Babel, Kuyt, Alonso,Benayoun and reira can chip in we are well on course for a good challenge.

Which is all I have ever wanted (barring winning of course but one game at a time eh)YNWA :cool:

Manchester City offer Fernando Torres £200,000 a week

Manchester City have given notice of their incredible financial muscle with a mind-blowing £200,000 a week offer to Fernando Torres.

The Mirror can reveal that representatives of the Premiership club’s Abu Dhabi owners have made discreet contact with the Liverpool striker’s advisors within the last fortnight.

And while there has been no official approach or a formal offer, it is understood the Spaniard’s agents have had the prospect of an incredible deal spelt out to them in no uncertain terms.

Sources in Spain, where the player’s advisors - the management group Bay International - are based, suggest that the oil rich owners of City would happily more than DOUBLE the striker’s salary to get their man.

And while Torres has made it clear that he would not be interested in any offer at any price, it is still a sobering reflection of just how powerful City could become in the market.

The figure has virtually been plucked out of the air to illustrate to the player’s advisor how keen the Arabs would be to see a player of Torres’ standing arrive at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Ironically, the Spaniard scored twice there to win the game for City on Sunday, and emphasise his status as probably the best striker in Europe at the moment.

City manager Mark Hughes wants another striker, and while he is pragmatic enough to realise that he will find it difficult to tempt a player such as Torres away from a big four club, he accepts the club’s new owners need to show they mean business.

Torres has discreetly sent word back that he is happy at Liverpool, and wouldn’t consider the move, not matter how much money he is offered.

He still has FIVE years left on his current Anfield contract and has given his word to the Kop fans he adores that he will not leave.

In fact, the only way he would consider a departure from Liverpool is if manager Rafa Benitez is somehow forced out by a failure to renew his own contract. The manager currently has around 18 months to run, and would be keen to sign an extension to provide some long term stability at the club.

If that doesn’t happen and the unthinkable becomes reality with Torres departing, then it would only be for Spain, and not another English club. In fact, Torres would leave only to join Barcelona, or return to his previous club Atletico Madrid, where he hopes to eventually finish his career.

It is understood that City won’t become arrogant in their pursuit of top players, and will instead allow Hughes to build a squad without the absolute necessity for star names.

But Torres is the exception. If there was any way he could be tempted then they would pay the wages no matter what the level.

If offers an intriguing insight into the direction of the Premiership over the next few years, with such an astonishing amount of money on offer to the right player.

Its also interesting that it states the only thing that would make him consider his future is Rafa not being given a new contract.
It seems a few players would see that as a backward step.

Class , i said before . You can't tempt some players with money , some have ambition and honor . Ronaldinho was being offered alot of money to to city when thaksin was there but he rejected them and went to milan as he wanted European football . They can have all the money in the world but at the end of the day they are still manchester shitty

I agree mate, Torres is CLASS. I think we were very very lucky to get a player with so much talent and so much character. Really starting to cement his place as a liverpool legend of the future. Especially when you look around Europe and see how some "stars" would sell their own grandmother for a better contract and more money.

i know he's scored twice in consecutive games and was probably unfairly denied a hat trick in one and missed a sitter for the hat trick in the other. of course its great to have a player that can do not much during a game then suddenly come alive and score a couple to win it, but there is something though in his body language and his general play that is bothering me. he's getting brushed off the ball a lot more than he was last season, his touch seems to be a little more iffy and some of his passes are horribly misplaced. too often i've seen him doing that little 'cisse shrug' or mouthing off at the ref or linesman after one of these mistakes. he's had a long season last season, then a world cup, then a little injury, so there are plenty of reasons why he hasn't picked up where he left off. the worry for me is that i don't see where he is going to get that spark back with little chance for a rest this season.

maybe i'm being a little over critical of him after he set the bar so high last season but i really don't think we're seeing the nando of last season yet. hopefully we will because IF we are going to have a tilt at this title we really need him on song.

I agree he hasn't quite hit top gear yet, Andy, and I too have seen a few dodgy touches and few stroppy moments with the Refs. I think he's still playing catch-up with his mental and physical fitness after a long season last year and a full summer with little rest. With that said, what gives me absolutely no cause for concern is how he responds to adversity. Everton and Man City have both tried to smother him, starve him of service and kick him up in the air the odd time. He's clearly grown frustrated in both games, both with the treatment, with the ref's lack of interest and probably with his own play. So, what does he do? He finds another level and scores a pair of second half braces against both. He's got the mentality to turn a bad day at the office into a MOTM performance in the space of a few minutes and that's why I have zero concerns about the lad long term. He's a winner and we're so lucky to have him! :buttrock

I don't disagree, mate, but I actually think he's a much better player for it. He doesn't play for the free kick at every turn and the more kicks he takes and the more the ref waves for him to get up, the more it seems to stoke his internal fire to stick the ball in the net and give a big f.uck you to opposition defenders and the refs that let them get away with it.

Exactly - there are a lot of our players here because of Rafa, and for those on here who would be happy to see the back of him, be preapred to lose Torres, Pepe, Masch and even Gerrard, for whom a change of manager would be a step back.

It says a lot about the respect Rafa commands when players are prepared to stick it out with him and believe in his abilities to bring success !

Personally I would prefer players to want to play for Liverpool rather than Rafa, but each to their own.

Exactly s@int.

I think it's a lot of bollox anyway people saying we'd lose this player and that player if Rafa leaves.

How many of Chelsea's stars left when Mourinho walked? If a player is happy at a club he won't leave just because the manager does, there would have to be other factors.

If you say that because of the article above... Torres has said nothing like that never. Not here, not in SPain, not now, not yesterday.

I think it's speculation of the journo.

I don't think that if Rafa leaves the Spaniards will automatically go.

They might go if the new manager have new ideas, but if the new manager counts on them? they'll stay.
