Seen one match with him in it a couple weeks ago, misplayed a number of passes, sent alot of balls into the corner for people to chase and had little to do defensively. If this that was a typical bad game for him, we are signing a liability.

1 game isn't all his games. I've seen quite a few games from him and he's very solid defensively and is very lively as well.

Taking out W.Roney from Manchester to play for Real Madrid for instance is the equivalent to take Messi out from Barcelona to Liverpool. Same percentage of possibilities more or less.

Looks like are answer is in this Article

From The TimesApril 25, 2008

Rafael Benítez finds it's good to talk at Anfield

James Ducker
Rafael Benítez outlined a tentative vision of a united Liverpool yesterday after claiming a minor victory in the civil war that has threatened to tear apart the club, but the manager is experienced enough to know that there will be more twists and turns in the Anfield soap opera.

After a week of “positive” discussions, during which Benítez used his newfound position of strength to ensure that the club's summer transfer strategy is not irreparably damaged against a backdrop of infighting, the Spaniard dared to look towards next term, when he hopes to mount his most credible challenge for the league title yet.

Benítez held talks with Tom Hicks, the under-pressure Liverpool coowner, and the Texan's son, Tom Jr, also a director, at the club's Melwood training headquarters on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, when the manager outlined his transfer targets. Although George Gillett Jr, Hicks's estranged business partner, and Rick Parry, the chief executive, did not attend either meeting, Benítez claimed that both were aware and approved of what had been discussed in the first visible attempt to bring the factions in the Liverpool boardroom together.

That remains a distant prospect, with Hicks keen to oust Parry, Gillett refusing to sell his 50 per cent stake to his fellow American and Parry and Benítez's long-term relationship untenable, but while Benítez cannot control the ownership saga as Dubai International Capital (DIC) continues to circle, he is determined to ensure that his plans for next season are not allowed to go awry through no fault of his.

Hicks to fund transfer spree
Questions remain as to whether Benítez will be at the club next season, but as long as he remains in charge, the Spaniard is focusing on the job in hand and made his first breakthrough in the transfer market this week after reaching a pre-contract agreement with Borussia Dortmund for Philipp Degen. The Switzerland right back, who is out of contract at the German club at the end of the season, will move to Anfield on July 1 on a free transfer.

“We [Hicks and Benítez] have had a very positive meeting,” Benítez said. “We talked about how to progress in the future. We need to work together and he agreed with me that we must talk together. If we want to go forward and sign players, we have to all work together.

“Everything is positive. Rick Parry will be working, too, and if everyone works hard and we work together, it will be easier.”

Liverpool are away to Birmingham City tomorrow before the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at Stamford Bridge four days later against Chelsea, against whom they were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield this week, but Benítez is also looking ahead. The manager believes that he will need “four of five” players in the summer, with Degen's arrival likely to raise doubts about Steve Finnan's future at the club. John Arne Riise, whose own goal in the 95th minute gave Chelsea an invaluable draw, is another whose future is certain, although with Fábio Aurélio ruled out for three weeks with a torn abductor muscle, the Norwegian is likely to be pressed into action against Birmingham.

Explaining everything is positive, Rafa also lets drop what has been wrong so far, the Rick Parry will be working too in my language come across like a big dig about his work rate so far.

I normally read the Hicks and boards thread but do not post anything because I don't have anything to say, but I read it. Maybe it's a stupid question but how Rick Parry keeps his job even after a new ownership is beyond me considering what the fans think about him and what Rafa suggests diplomatically about him.

Quite simply, why is he still there? nobody can fire him? has he some sort of rights due to stocks or something? Balague the other day wrote an article in Spanish about the Parry problem, and as I say, why is he still there is not obvious to me.

Gillett and Moores back him on the board, plus he had a vote himself so Hicks has not enough votes in the boardroom to fire him.

I'll bet Rick won't last 2008 at Liverpool, rumour has it there is a nice job available for him at the Premier league.

I've never seen him play and never heard of him, which of course doesn't mean he either is or isn't Cafu or Kromkamp, it just means I don't know anything about German football other than the fact they don't miss many penalties, Bayern Munich are generally quite good and by all accounts it's quite cheap to get in and watch football over there.

He does though if I'm guessing seem like the kind of signing which will provide "options" and "possibilities".  Hopefully those "possibilities" include the realistic chance of him being a first team regular right back and do not relate solely to the fact that he can also play left wing or wherever else it is.

i've never heard of degen, but again that doesn't say much as i don't know much about the qualities of german football. if he's that good though i suppose he'll be the swiss right back at euro 2008 in his home country so we'll all get a proper look at him there.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

I hear that he's :censored:, from people that watch German league.  If he's the only FB that we're getting then I'm going to be really mad.  We should be  going for guys like Lahm and Boswinga.

Good God, let's hope he's a bit better than the last bosman we signed from the Bundesliga.  He'd at least better have a proper haircut, anyway. :D
