the notion that ronaldo is a winger is one of the biggest myths in world football.

Agreed. Saw a piece the other week about how we'll all look back in a couple of years and laugh at the notion that Ronaldo ever played out wide. He's becoming more and more of a striker everyday--to the point where Ferguson pushed Rooney out wide and played Ronaldo up top away to Roma.

If he's not a winger then what is he?
He certainly doesn't lead the line up front, because receiving the ball with his back to goal is certainly not his game.
Granted he is not a wide midfielder because in United's formation he has next to no defensive responsibilities, but his starting position is definitely wide.
He is a winger, but he has licence to roam in what is a very flexible United front line.

The rose tinted specs on here is at times shocking. I personally don't see this love affair with him, people are making him out to be something he's not, a good player yes, but he's not undroppable. I wouldn't say he's any better than Xabi for a start.
