The fact is we never do which is why we never get near to winning the league.

He's wasted at Liverpool. He really is. Thats the sad truth of the matter.

While you can say that he is wasted at Liverpool, the only honour that eludes him is the league title. If he played at  Chelsea and United, the only medal that would have elluded him was the Champions League.

Gerrard has played in 2 Champions League finals. Thats pretyy huge.

paisley didnt manage a win in the FA cup final, but we all regard him as succesful

Anyone think that like Henry maybe Gerrard needs to go before we can really progress?

HAHAHAHA

Im gonna take this with a pinch of salt and when you wake up maybe you will realise what you just wrote.

Wide awake mate.

Weak team mates, feuding owners, no transfer kitty, trying to oust the manager - why TF should Stevie G stay at Liverpool when he could fit straight into a Barcelona, RMadrid, Juventus style team?

Both Milan teams need to rebuild, name your price son.

Liverpool will still be bitching and moaning trying to get funds out of the owners to buy quality for the next 2-3 years, so quite frankly there are more reasons to move on than there are to stay. You only live once, and you´re only at the top for 3-4 years so Stevie has to decide what he wants to achieve in life rather than hang around waiting for LFC and the likes of Parry to come to the party.

You telling me you´ve never changed jobs?

I would he hate if he did f.uck off, but blame probably not. He has spent the best part of his career here. Being a pivitol figure, while teamates and managers have never got it right as far as the league.

Mercinary ? No dont think so, its nothing to do with money, but medals and id Gerrard wants this medal so bad, well really fairplay. Most p[eople on these boards thinks the CL is a better medal. Not from my eyes and if Gerrard left not from his either.

So, if Gerrard orchestrated a transfer to Man U or Chelsea this summer and made it clear that he had done so in order to have a chance at winning the league and thus completing his personal medal collection, you wouldn't resent him for it? ???

Personally, I'd see it as a fundamental betrayal of the club and I'd detest him for it.  Thankfully, it would never happen.

Why would I resent a player who is desperate to pick up a league medal  ???

If its not going to be under Rafa at Liverpool which is TBH I havent really seen any sign that there is. Then obviously that player would have to look elsewhere.

I wouldnt like the fact NO, but I wouldnt resent him either if the manager and the club here and now cannot and do not have the same or show the same ambitions. Liverpool Fc would have the ambitions BTW, and hopefully Rafa too. But like I said there has been no sign ovver the course of the season that we're about to win the league anytime soon. Gerrard is at his peak now, and time isnt really on his side anymore.

If Gerrard retires without a league medal, IMO it would be a travesty to have a player of his quality never win the darn thing in a decade of trying too.

Fair enough, I suppose.  My issue is that we are not a million miles away from winning the league at the moment but we could be if Gerrard bailed on the club.  For one, he'd leave a massive hole in our side that would be a major challenge to fill.  For two, he would significantly strengthen whichever of our competitors he signed with.  Moreover, as a Scouser who's been with the team since boyhood he'd know exactly how much damage he was doing.  Sure, if we were mired in mid-table with no prospects of ever challenging, I could understand it.  But we're not.  As frustrating as our stillborn title challenge was this season we know we're not far away (otherwise we wouldn't be all that frustrated about our stillborn challenge this season, if you get my meaning).  I'd have huge resentment toward him if he decided now, after we've got back within touching distance of a title challenge, to put personal glory ahead of helping his boyhood club over the last hurdle.

That said, this is all nonsense talk because he's made no hints that he wants to leave and I don't think he is looking to either.  He knows the club can still match his ambitions. :nod

Agreed and probably nothing else to be said on the matter  :)

lock the thread then  :p

Perhaps or maybe he just doesn't like foreigners and worries that "those kind just stick to their own."  And why wouldn't he think that?  After all, that's what he'd do if he managed Liverpool: stick all the Johnny Foreigner types like Alonso, Aurelio, Mascherano, Reina and Torres on the bench, only use their last names in the press and shift them all over the pitch when they did have to be played.  And, of course, he'd eventually replace them with old-fashioned, dependable English players like Murphy, Warnock, Pennant, Carson and Doyle.  That'd win us the league for sure!  :p

I presume you are referring to Kevin Doyle, Bob?

He was five or six years behind me in school and I can assure you he's not English.  :D

He's irish i think

Last comments below confirm he is the wrong guy to lead the team.

Arbeloa admits 'inhumane' start
Liverpool defender shocked by early days under Benitez

Arbeloa joined the Reds for £2.5million from Deportivo La Coruna in January 2007 and the Spanish international admits he was shocked by his first few weeks.

But the right-back - who made his debut for Spain in Wednesday's 1-0 victory over Italy - insists he is now settled on Merseyside ahead of Sunday's crucial derby with Everton at Anfield, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1.

Arbeloa has made 35 appearances for Liverpool this season after taking advantage of the injury and inconsistent form of Steve Finnan, but he admits he struggled to settle in his early days in England.
"I didn't know where I was in my first week with Liverpool," Arbeloa told the Daily Mail.

"It went badly, and the image I remember from those early days is of the manager (Benitez) criticising everything I did, from the way I did some basketball practice to how I played my football.

"My first fortnight at the club was inhumane, but I am grateful to him now for filling me in on how the team works. It is a well-run club and I found it easy to adapt to their way of working.

"People say the manager is grumpy but I have only seen that once. He is serious-minded, though, and I can assure you nobody enjoys themselves during the training sessions."

Arbeloa has also described Jamie Carragher as Liverpool's 'boss' in the dressing room, but insists Steven Gerrard is the team's on-field leader.

"Jamie is the true boss in the changing room," Arbeloa added. "He orders everyone around and yells a lot but, to be fair, he has a CV equal to Fernando Hierro's for Real Madrid and the Spain national team. He sees and hears everything and keeps us informed about what is happening.

"Gerrard is also important. He is like Zinedine Zidane - a genius who doesn't like to be the centre of attention. He is the first to make runs, to lend a hand or to get stuck in when necessary."

Who says Arsenal doesnt miss Henry. They have now gone 5 games without a win their worst spell in 9 years. We will surely miss Gerarrd if he was to leave and I feel we should build the team around him.

After today's performance, he should definately be captain. He was fantastic throughout the game.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Credit where credit is due to the skipper last night, especially considering he even admitted himself that he had one of his poorest games of the season. I still think his comments about his performance may have included a measure of implicit dissatisfaction with lining up on the left hand side of midfield.

Regardless of that though, especially since he thought he wasn't playing well, he showed absolutely massive balls to step up and take the pen, exactly what I want from our captain.
