Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It saddens me to say so, but maybe in the case of Pennant we do have to make do with what we've got. It's as plain as the nose on ur face we need a 2nd striker to back up Torres, and we aint gonna get a good one for a snip. Maybe 2 in 2 for Kuyt'll give him some much needed confidence and take the wind outta those sails, but even i find that hard to believe.

Left side has given problems all season, regardless of who's played there, so there's another target area for cash. I'd love to see Aurelio come into some form and stay injury free. I think JAR has maybe come to the point in his career where he needs a new challenge. Kewell? leave it there, cuz for a 3 million pound bargain he's cost some bloody money!! Waster.

Yeah, Pennant cud be a short term answer to a problem, but PLEASE, don't ever think this Arsenal reject, club hauntin trouble carryin player is a long term answer to LFC's issues. Soon as the money's available and not required elsewhere I'd hope the door smacked his a$$ as he strode thru the exit.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

I think it is harsh to judge pennant on this season because he was injured for a long period of time and that has thrown him off. For the 2nd half of last season, he was consistantly on people's list of their top three performers of the match.  He seems to get better with confidence and with a run of games, I think he featured in more games than everyone but Reina last season

I think I rate him higher than most, but I am glad that Kenny can see the point I was trying to make even though we differ on how good he is.  He certainly will never be our strongest player on the pitch, but he is consistent and actually plays fairly well in the big games (Chelsea, Arsenal, Milan)

And S@int I respectfully disagree, even though I do always hope Kewell will find his form, lately and sadly he has done nothing but dissapoint, he can't beat anybody off the ball anymore.  Riise as a midfielder doesn 't do it for me, and he ALSO does not offer a goal threat

The last season in which Riise played mainly left midfield rather than fullback he scored 9 goals. So he can score when on form. The problem is more one of confidence rather than ability with Riise. The other big plus with Riise is he doesn't get many injuries either. Pennant has scored 12 goals IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER.

Or maybe you forgot the goal against Chelsea in the semi of the FA cup, the goal against Barca, the goal against Chelsea i the League cup final, the goal against Chelsea in the Charity shield etc etc. For someone who offers no goal threat he scores in a lot of important matches?

Kewell is coming back after almost a full season out with injury, yet people expect miracles. If his form hasn't picked up by the end of the season I would get shut, for now I will live in hope.

Ronaldo 65 mins nothing, against a side that contains Boumsong.

Pennant 10 mins, 2 assists against a much better side than Lyon.

Point well and truly proven. Come on Lyon :D
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

GBJH you come out with some crazy comments !!

First you say JP is probably as good as any winger in the premiership which is :no idk clueless  eg. Young ,Ronaldo, Jcole ,shawn r-phillips nani , giggs, Hleb, Rosicky, petrov , Aaron Lennon ....... imo are all better than JP

Then u go and try to explain how JP is not as bad as Ronaldo by saying he scored his goals from set pieces and only a few from open play but just pointing out the obvious he can get pass players he can score goals from open play he's 2 footed and he's lightening fast .... JP is no where near that imo ..

After my little rant i'd still be in a coin toss to pick JP or YB  cos i think they are both average wingers !

Pennant the best right winger in the world, closely followed by Gerrard, then Benayoun, then Anderson, then Hammill, then Babel, the Kuyt, Steve Finnan eight in the world, Ray Putterill ninth and Antonio Nunez 10th best right winger in the world.

FACT :D

going nearly a year without scoring is not going to put fear in the defense.  And I also live in hope for kewell, because he probably CAN be better than pennant, but if you look at the last 10 appearances for both I would think pennant would edge him out, and pennants good form was only 7 or 8 months ago, you have to go back much further to find kewells form, plus his injuries have been more severe

OMG tevez just scored a 2 yard tap in again !!!!

How many of them does tevez get man , his luck is true the roof

Sure Nunez could get 12 goals a season if the ball ends up to u 2 yards from the goal line !!!

To be fair to Riise he has been playing most of his games at full back over the last year or so. Not many fullbacks get a lot of goals. How many has Finnan scored for example?

It still doesn't alter my opinion that Pennant is good enough for backup as is Riise or Kewell, just that given the choice I would sign a right winger and make do and mend on the left with Riise, Babel, Kewell, Leto,Aurelio.

I think Pennants good enough apart from the first 5-6 months when he was settling in he really started 2 perform 4 us then he picked up this injury & it stopped his progress

i agree that hes r best crosser........gerrard & finnan closely behind

like alot of people on here who say hes not world class i agree but i dont think u need world class in every position no team has that

i would stick with pennant on the right because i think GQ full backs another WC striker & a WC left winger r more important

He's decent, and I think we could get away with having him in the side as long as we have a top quality left winger on the other side, as well as whoever is playing at right-back is prepared to support him plenty (as Finnan did against Inter for example). He's not top quality, and ideally we'd have someone of much greater quality, but at the moment I think our left-side should be our main priority.

I think (and im probably wrong, usually am) that Pennant is played more when crouch is played due to his crossing of the ball. might just be coincidence, but neither play that much.

Im not sure about Pennant, I think hes lazy to be honest. If he was stricter with himself i think he could be a class act but at the moment he seems to just be happy to pick up his pay check.

I believe that Pennant is good enough, he is a tricky player and provides good width, but defenders aren't really afraid of him because he's lightweight and doesn't have great pace, plus he rarely gets into good goal scoring position(maybe under Rafa's orders).  If he stays then we still need a quality winger who has fast pace, can get past defenders and can score goals(Ronaldo,Vicente, Mancini...).  I don't know what Rafa wants to do with Babel, but he needs major improves to become that winger for us.  I still think that we need to look for a winger in the summer, maybe we can steal Young from Villa or look for a winger in Spain.
