I really felt for Jol watching that game...he went through the whole gamut. Poor sod, there can't be many lined up at the bar in the last chance saloon for him now. Liverpool away must look like the Death Knell being rung with the Grim Reeper swinging off the rope gnashing his teeth in preparation. Lets face it, the Scythe has already been primed weeks ago...Hope not. He's a likeable enough sort.

His players though.....    Well, they'll be the ones accountable at the end.

Didn't see the match but read that Robinson had a right mare of a game . How does this fella hang on to his England place ? . Seems like every other game he produces some comedy routine.

Premier League team of season so far.

GK: Green An English keeper on the top of his game - now there’s a headline one wouldn’t have seen much of recently. The man with the Premier League’s largest chin has been in excellent form for a thus far mediocre West Ham side. Steve McClaren’s ultimately erroneous decision to stick with “Calamity Robinson” looks all the more foolish when one considers Green’s season so far.

RB: Brown Not only has Gary Neville gone unmissed in an England shirt (thanks to Micah Richards), but no tears have been shed for him at Old Trafford either and that’s thanks to Wesley Brown’s assured performances so far. Much maligned in the past, Brown has been both solid at the back and industrious going forward.

CB: Ferdinand What people sometimes forget is that when Rio Ferdinand isn’t out “mercking” people on English TV he’s actually a pretty handy defender. Manchester United have been rock solid so far, and the man with no top lip has played a large part in that. He’s even chipping in with a few goals.

CB: Richards Right back for England, centre back for Man City, the boy is a man mountain, an immovable object - that is until one of the big four move him on for what will no doubt be a hefty fee. Man City are going great guns under Sven and now posses one of the most talented, sought after and valuable defenders in European football. Unfortunately for the Eastland’s faithful - the better Micah plays, the shorter his time at City will be.

LB: Clichy Ashley who? Arsenal’s latest electric left back is on course to be even better then his predecessor. Clichy is in possession of all the attributes of the charming, humble and charitable Mr. Cole, except the diving, winging and the no-talent wife

LM: Bale Amid all of the gloom and despair surrounding Tottenham Hotspur at the moment there is one ray of hope in the shape of Gareth Bale. The Welsh teenager has been excellent when not injured and has it all, pace, skill and goals. A wonderful purchase by Martin Jol, or was it Damian Comolli, or Daniel Levy perhaps?

CM: Fabregas A genius, a magician, simply a joy to watch. As the saying used to go from Championship Manager 2 “The press have run out of superlatives” when talking about the Spaniard’s form. Not only has he added plenty of goals to his game, he is making assists by the bucket-load and dictating games in a way that esteemed names such as Gerrard and Lampard can only dream about.

CM: Elano When Sven was asked why his England side never played like his current Man City team he replied “because England don’t have players like Elano”. A rare moment of wit and good humour from the icy Swedish playboy. Elano has been awesome, his free-kick against Newcastle, a smapshot of the quality he has displayed so far this season.

RM: Bentley Rightly booed by the England fans earlier on in the season (Bentley pulled out last minute of the under 21 tournament in the summer) and the man Arsene Wenger discarded is proving to be a real star at Ewood Park. Wenger claimed that Bentley always had the talent - so why get rid of him? One theory is that it was to do with the wingers awful hair-do’s but Wenger did just go and buy Bacary Sagna.

ST: Benjani The Zimbabwean couldn’t hit the proverbial cows with a banjo last season however things this time around couldn’t be more different. The league’s top scorer with seven goals Mr. Mwaruwari has now matched his phenomenal work rate with finishing prowess.

ST: Agbonlahor When Agbonlahor burst onto the scene with a debut goal against Everton two seasons ago he looked promising but raw. 15 months later he looks awesome. Outstanding pace, a fearless approach and cool in front of goal, Villa’s young prodigy will be knocking on the England door in no time - unless Steve McClaren decides to bring Teddy Sheringham back into the fold as part of his “fresh, forward thinking approach”.
