Has anyone bought the new Pro Evo? If so, what's the verdict?

Posted this in another thread but it might be of interest to some in here.

"Outplay the Console Kids with a home pc well worth a read.

In terms of price the Mesh Elite Storm looks like a good buy although I'm wondering if I purchased one should I upgrade the graphics card ?   . Any techheads in here care to comment.

Woof, your link doesn't work but if you like strategy games definitely get a PC. A high end PC will also play a lot of multiplatform games better than a console.

I love my 360 but I'm a PC gamer at heart.

Cheers JB, I've re entered it , seems to work now. It's a decent read , something someone with your knowledge would probably have an educated view on (?).

ps I'd generally always go for a pc over a console, was wondering (price aside) what people made of some of the points being made in the reviews.

Woof, I read that article in the Sunday Times last weekend.

Some of those machines are ridiculously overpriced. It is relatively easy to build a power PC yourself for less money.

If you are thinking of getting a gaming PC make sure its got the following:

Intel Quad Core processor, ideally a Q6600 which are relatively cheap.
Minimum 2 gig DDR2 memory (you can add a further two gigs later as memory is quite cheap at the moment).
Nvidia 8800GTX (or, if money is tight, an 8800GT when its released in November)

All of the rest of the components are relatively generic in pre-made PCs, if you get the above three you'll have a beast of a machine.

Cheers JB, I'll probably have to buy a new motherboard as well, mines now several years old and I don't think it will take all (has the slots ?) the new stuff.

Xmas is coming, I'm gonna price up your recommendations and give 'em to my son, he always gets his old fella the good stuff. (Last year new flat screen monitor and latest Athlon processor  :D )

while I'm on , I recently increased my RAM from 500Mg to 1Gb , it may be coincidence but my pc now seems slower, surely the increased RAM wouldn't be responsible ? .

Depends. If the RAM you used isn't synced right, it can bottleneck the performance of the motherboard, or if it's not fully compatible either. Find out what kind of RAM it is, then check to see if your mobo is compliant with it.

Only one choice and that's 360. If it's games you're interested in and no more. 360's line up can't be touched, plus the fact that Live  can't be touched. 360 is prone to faults, yes, but they are sorting that out slowly. Anyway, if you get one now, you are covered for 3 years. PS3 has no real exclusives bar GT5 and MGS. Though it's worth noting that GT is a disappointment on the machine, and MGS won't be exclusive for long on it. Not only this, but games on PS3 are on average dearer to buy than the same 360 counterpart. Me and a mate (who owns a PS3) got Pro Evo 08 at the same time, and his was a fiver more expensive. Most are roughly a 10'r more.

On the subject of Pro Evo, I was well f*cked off yesterday when I learned that this so called extensive edit mode in the game didn't exist. I formatted  a 300GB external HDD and partitioned a drive on it to a FAT32 format to run on my 360. I was saving all high res kits thinking that I could be able to port them to the game and use them. But no. It doesn't allow for this, and even the music can't be changed as far as I can see. Can't even take a custom character online to show yer mug in the game. What the f*ck is that all about. Seabass, you c*nt!

Cheers, not something I'd considered, just assumed the increased RAM would improve the performance. My motherboard however is several years old. thanks for the tip , I'll look into it.
