Really ? Well why was Darren Bent in Liverpool yesterday?

And why has Benayoun handed in a transfer request when we are the only club that looks to have put a bid for him.

So if Bent does sign do people believe it will be for more than £12 mil.

Because he wanted to speak to uncle albert about a possible move   :p

Got any pics? I didn't catch him.

Benayoun is more likely to move here IMO, but that wouldn't be the end of the world in my book, especially if it was for a nominal fee.

Benayoun is a decent player I suppose. I'm not convinced about Bent, especially not for as much as West Pork were willing to pay for him.

But we need better quality than those guys.

Bluekipper is a rare aquatic species, found in the South Atlantic.

Worshipped by fans of Everscum FC.

This bit I disagree with you John and Leon. I think we are short of being a quality squad, it showed so much this season, especially our strike force, which is average.

We have a quality midfield, but we lack quality wingers and quality strikers. To be a winning premiership team you need in every department an excellent player. We have carragher in defence, gerrard in midfield, but unfortunately we don't have an excellent striker nor an excellent winger.

I agree, that we do not need a big names and paying big money to improve the squad. We can get players with enough quality, commitment and character that can improve the squad.

Bent and Benayoun are good players, but not good enough for Liverpool FC.

Big signings DO NOT equal the title.

Really?? care to explain what these were, Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, Cech, Essien, Drogba, Robben, Henry, Bergkamp to mention but a few?

We have a good team ethic and strategy which has closed the gap when we play one off games against anyone, but we do not have absolute pure class in the final third, and over a 38 game period this deficiency will cost us. You say we outplayed the Mancs at home, so why didn't we win? IMO because there isn't a player in the team that can carry the ball with pace or who can be relied upon to score when only one half chance presents itself. None of our forwards would give any defender a sleepness night.

I don't advocate buying a name, but invariably someone of the class i described will not be cheap, and Bent does not fit the bill. Not a bad player, but we have the equivalent level at the club already, Crouch and Kuyt, both decent, hardworking team players, but not blessed with that something special, eg Rush, Owen and Fowler. Without a top quality forward coming to the club i do not see how we can win the league, we may compete valiantly, but that will be down to Rafa's strategy and the team ethos he has instilled.

I agree with Redtrader74 here and if anyone thinks we do not need a class player or two to put the proverbial icing on the cake, then IMO you'll have another frustrating season watching Liverpool struggle to break teams down. Its funny how the tune has changed of some, we may be a better side next season if we had the same squad and didnt improve. But whatever happened to the notion that the likes of ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal wont think like that and improve their teams and squads on top of what they already have. In other words they'll leave us standing in the league yet again. I cannot believe people would be content with siging nobody or mediocre players after the season we've just witnessed thats just simply being naive and controversial.

I couldnt give a feck what the players name is, it could be Mashrack from Turkey, Van der Voolin from Holland or Paul Smith from  Birmingham. If there class sign them, as it happens the well known and documented players that have been banded about are class. Tevez, Eto they've made their names by being quaility players.

We'll have Garcia and Kewell back next season, and IMO we'll still need at the very least a " class " forward. Tevez would be an excellent choice to play in the 'hole'. If Klose was on a free too I'd snap him up, as he seems to be a natural poacher another player that we're crying out for. But Tevez could be that missing link  :D  not between man and ape, but between midfield and Attack. Then personally I'd look for a first choice right mid, again one with class, and end product.

All good reads, and if Bent was seen in Liverpool yesterday then it tells it's own story. I think I agree with John Craig the most to be honest (nice to see him posting again) where he alludes to the theory that if rafa sorts out his meddling then we will have a chance to challenge. I've long maintained that we were easily good enough to challenge THIS season had we given ourselves a chance (I'd like to see Chelsea or Man Utd make as many alterations to their starting line-up/formation etc as we did in the first few weeks and still mount a successful challenge put it that way) and therefore we wouldn't need too much to be right in the mix.

As I said in the original post though, the feeling persists that our goalkeeper, defensive unit and midfield are Championship quality, but our attack is a bit short. If you think back to the Chelsea Away game I think it demonstrates the difference ina  nutshell. Even stevens for half an hour, nip and tuck with few chances then Drogba scores with a goal out of absolutely nothing. Not a good build up, not bad defending, not bad goalkeeping just a bit of inspirational play, a free goal if you like. After that, even stevens again but we never really looked like getting the goal back.

We don't get enough "free" goals during the course of a season. You normally get one or two off Gerrard, Agger scored one against West Ham at the start of the season but we just lack that little something, that spark. Usually we overcome it, but not always and ultimately it is that little finger snap of inspiration which a really top striker would bring which may, just may leave us five or six points adrift at count-up time.

The thing is, Chelsea(ok maybe chelsea) and Manchester don't have a huge squad to rotate than we do.  ???
